You have to remember the actual architecture of the bike's internals and exhaust ports - even straight pipe will never be as loud as a Harley - it's physically impossible. Folks behind me say they get real loud when I get on it - and something else - relish the fact that the sound coming from your bike is from the ONLY 1600/1700cc parallel twin made - no other bike makes this sound. I love the fact that I am straddling unique sound and not making the "potato potato potato" sound of a Harley idling at a stoplight.

Whats always made me just shake my head is when triumph says how they use the 270 degree crank to get that cruiser sound (IE:harley potato potato sound) and when people talk about how the Tbird and speedmaster/america have that sound because of thier 270 crank. I just can't imagine any reason anyone would say that except placebo effect....triumph says it so thats what they hear. Me....i don't remotely hear anything like that ! Sounds like a freakin' 360 crank to me. Wacky....

The only way i has abel to get that "potato" sound with my speedmaster was by turning down my idel RPM, running strait pipes, ad rejetting my carb, but it still dont really sound like a harley, not that it really bothers me or anything.

My wife came home yesterday and she made me take her for a ride and she fell in love with the sound, so i guess the pipes are keepers.

I realize this thread is a couple of months old, but I've not yet heard anyone mention the Foran Razorback pipes for the Thunderbird. From what I understand they are quite expensive and hand made per order. Some folks feel they're ugly too, but that is subjective. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They do give off a wonderful tone though. I've tried to link a video and I hope it works. It's fairly long and you have to wait until the very end to hear the Thunderbird with these pipes. It's a really different look for this bike.

I just pulled the trigger on the short tors. Dazco is right. Great sound. Loud, but obnoxious. The sound is actually intoxicating in the 2000-3000 rpm range with a bit of throttle. Very guttural, very strong.

I am extremely happy with the upgrade...just what the doctor ordered!

Do you get much popping on the over-run?

I have short Tors, and I find they sound better when I am in too high a gear and the engine is laboring a bit, when accelerating hard from low speed.

I installed the short Tors and a TB1610 K&N filter on 2012 Storm. What can I say...uneffing believable. Can't hear engine much after the upgrade. I thought the bike was fast enough before...now it wants to pull your arms out of the socket. Somebody in the forum had said it right that it sounds like a Chinook helicopter. Love the sound and the performance.

I have triumph shorty's on mine and they stop midway between my saddlebags... so if the heat ruins my bags i'll let you know. It would be nice if V&H made some 2 into 1's for this scoot.
