A couple of issues.

I filled my tank today with 182.4 miles on the trip meter. The gauge was reading empty- no bars at all and the computer said I had 10 miles left on the tank. It only took 4.337 gallons to fill it right up to the top of the filler neck. Isn't this thing supposed hold 5.8 gallons? I would think it would take at least 5 when showing dead empty. If it really holds 5.8 gallons, I had about another 60 miles to empty.

After I filled the tank I started the bike and when I put it in gear it stalled. I tried the same thing about five times with the same result. I pushed the bike over to a curb, put the kickstand down and got off the bike to look around and see if I could find anything obvious. I didn't see anything, so I tried again and everything worked as it should. I rode the bike about fifteen miles and stopped a couple of times with no more problems. I'm wondering it had something to do with not having the kickstand down for a period of time while waiting to and then gassing up. Weird.

I don't know, but from what i've seen triumph fuel gauges are notoriously wacky. Even the R3 guys have had many issues with filling up only to find they needed way less then the gauge showed. Better then the opposite tho, eh?!

Does the TBird have a fuel shutoff/reserve petcock? Or does the "low fuel" light take the place of the reserve?

No. Yes. Plus the gauge.

That's what I was thinking. I'm gonna have a look to make sure it's working properly.

Thanks for the replies.

NEVER trust a fuel indicator, always reset the trip meter and use that.

Think of the Tbird gas gage like the one on your car. When the low fuel light comes on you like have about 4 gallons left. When the distance to empty hits zero you like likely have 2+ gallons left. The Tbird tank is no different, just a smaller tank.

The way I look at it this: when the miles to empty is zero, you are on reserve.

I've noticed my low gas light comes on when the bike thinks I have about 75 miles to go. I will usually fill up around 160-170 miles with the bike telling me the 50-75 range to go. with that, the most gas I ever put in was 4.1 gal so I still had 1.7 gal left. I continue to average around 41-43 mph. I now have 3700 miles on her. I was getting a fairly steady 45-46 mph at the beginning but I put the TORs on and slipped on a K&N filter. After that, especially the filter, I noticed the drop in mph. Or, it could be I'm riding a little harder. Yea, I think that's what it is!
