CAT Eliminator cross-over pipe

One of your forum members came to us, Fuggin Fabrication & Engineering a motorcycle exhaust manufacturer to develop a CAT Eliminator cross-over pipe for the 2009/2010 Thunderbird. We have started looking into what was needed to develop a marketable aftermarket product.

I am posting a drawing showing what we are proposing to develop. Based on the response will determine if this will cross-over will become a product that we will sell. Please let me know if this is something that forum members are looking for? If this looks like a product Triumph owners want, we will look into developing other products and complete exhaust systems for Triumph motorcycles.

I want to thank the administrators for allowing me to post.

Welcome Fuggin / Don. No image was posted if you intended to do so. I will say that the bird comes with a crossover in the header pipes. I see no benefit to a rear crossover personally.

Best of luck with your project.

Thumbs up Fuggin Fab - Don

Hey Guys - (T-bird owners)

I wanted to thank Don for taking the time to meet with me and also come up with the design in such a short time. I was there on Tuesday and they already have a CAD drawing it shows that Fuggin Fabrication is committed....
Now is our turn (tbird owners) to show Don and his team that we are passionate about our bikes and are looking for that extra HP gain.

Thatch - thanks for the input on the X-over by the headers, the fabricator/engineer looked at that too and commented that it maybe be more beneficial to have a larger X-over to balance since the restriction of the CAT will be removed. My guess is that all these theories will be tested and proven on the Dyno.

Again I like to Thank Don and this forum for their time and input on this. I for one are looking forward to the result

Apologies for the long post

Anyone that develops product for the bird is alright in my book. The fact that they jumped on it so quickly and actually have design plans in place is great. Now they are asking for input from owners, that's a big score.

I still think the existing crossover is enough and as my pipes include the cat bypass I don't need that sort of cat replacement pipe. If however I switched to a different pipe and wanted to keep the cat off I'd certainly look at this options assuming the price was reasonable.

The way i see it, either a crossover pipe or just anything there that allows you to retain the cat's mounting points is IMO a good thing. I know those who've done it say it feels solid as a rock, but you have to figure a bike vibrates a lot, even one as smooth as the Tbird. And that vibration can cause metal fatigue. even if it feels solid, with the cat gone theres one less mounting point which will allow the pipe to move more with vibration. And those Tbird pipes as anyone who has lifted them knows are very heavy. Personally i'd like something there with monting points where the cat mounted, not necassarily a crossover pipe but a bar or anything. If it doesn't have that i'd just as soon fab my own for $20. 1.5-2 feet of the proper diameter pipe and a few bucks to the guy at the muffler shop to bend it.

I'd agree with you if you were going to be using a catback pipe such as the stocks, or TORs or D&D pipes. There is some room for wiggle there with two unsupported connections. The BC pipes don't have this issue since the bypass is included in the pipe. The header pipe is hard mounted before the cat and the the pipe is hard mounted at the rear so once that connection is made they don't budge.

If I was using a catback pipe with bypass I'd much prefer to have the bypass braced. (though admittedly I've heard of no issues)
