Whirring noise

I know my Speedy has it. Does the t-bird as well? If it does is it just a product of a parallel twin?

not as bad, the speedmaster has all straight cut gears that produce the noise, the Thunderbird has straight cut for first then hexagonal cut for the rest, this reduced gearbox noise

There's reference to the Triumph whirl from the Thunderbird here and here. Seems like it's not as loud on the T-bird. If it comes from the engine, rather than the gearbox, this could be explained by the water jacket in the T-bird engine absorbing some of the noise. I know that I noticed when I took a T-bird for a test ride that the engine is much quieter than the Speedmaster's.

That was one of the many reasons i was interested in the Tbird. I had a speedy and the engine noise drove me crazy So when i read the Tbird was much quieter due to the water jacket i was thrilled at that prospect. Sure enough it's much quieter. I always wear ear plugs due to wind noise, but if not for that i wouldn't be using them with this bike. With my speedy i had to use them for the engine noise alone. It was on of a very small list, maybe 2 things, that i didn't like about it. the other being power, and the Tbird cured that quite nicely too !
