Windvest screens

I've gone through many of the treads related to windshields and still undecided on what to buy. It appears that the Triumph screens cause quite a bit of buffeting or noise for most riders. Leaning towards the Windvest but there doesn't seem to be many riders with this option. The screen also looks a bit cheap. Can those with this Windvest for the TBird provide some more feedback? Thanks.

windvest

I'm running a windvest on a 05 R3. I find it very unobtrusive, keeps the pressure off me and blows most of the bugs up over my head.
It's easy to remove. I have noticed that I need to check the fasteners, that clamp the screen to its frame, on occasion for looseness. The damper material between the clamps to the frame had to be replaced, it squeezed out. I used some rubber tape to replace the factory stuff, which was more of a foam material.
All in all I like it and at times when I look at the bike it seems relatively unnoticeable.
I'd send a picture but none of my bike pictures are with me at the moment.

I owned a Triumph BA (sweet girl) and began with the Triumph summer screen...NOT!
Then I tried another aftermarket screen...same problem, buffeting around 75 mph.

My Windvest should arrive in 2 days and I'll post a photo after installation, report performance.

As far as looks, the trick (I believe) is to have a shield proportional to the low profile ThunderBird. A screen that is not narrow and long, so I ordered a 16x16 smoke screen.

Also, it's one of the few screens that's adjustable to the rider...locating that sweet spot!

AZ, did you get the screen yet? Waiting to hear you thoughts.

Opium, I installed the 16 x 16 windscreen (I don't recommend a narrower or shorter shield) and so far it performs great. The wind just hits the top of my full face helmet (I’m 5’10”) but does not create noticeable buffeting. Due to the weather, I’ve done only short test runs up to 80 mph so don’t have much to report (and now the bike is at the dealership for the big bore). I’ll keep you posted….

Question Updates on Windvest?

Like tarbender, got a new T-bird and am reluctant to get the Triumph screen due to the reports on buffeting and "no return" policy. Windvest says they give a money-back guarantee, no restocking fee if it doesn't work it out. Hoping that forum members (AZfun?) with the screen can give a size recommendation (at 6'2", I'm guessing the 18" screen would be the right size), post a picture to see how it looks, and give a road-test update on comfort and durability. Thanks from a forum newbie.

I'm 5'9" and have the medium Triumph screen. I saw a Windvest screen, but like the fact the Triumph screen goes further down to protect the tank.
There is some buffeting, but I don't find it that bad. I wear earplugs all the time, have a helmet pop down visor. The tall screen is too tall to me. We have a Switchblade Chopped screen on the VStar, and it works better than the Triumph.

Hey guys,

I have a slipstreamer tombstone windshield and paid less than $70 for it. Those windvests are very expensive for what you get. My tombstone is great. It is small but keeps the wind off your chest and deflects the wind over your helmet due to its flared design at the top. Buffeting does not occur until around 90, but it is minimal even at 120... It is the HD 3 Clear. A link is below. I can take pictures if you want. For 70 bucks you cant beat it.

...just got back from the Laughlin River Run and the Windvest performed great (and looks good...I received many complements)! Also, the shield is adjustable. If you're 6'2", then I'd consider the 18" version.
