Leather Tank Cover Install
Who has one? I tried fitting mine this evening and I can't get the cluster to actually "seat" around the leather without the rubber gasket installed. Seems to me that this thing is going to wiggle around over time and will ost definitely let water though the gaps between it and the tank. Yes, I did make sure the tab was underneath the tank mounting at the rear, still no bueno. You folks with this have the same issue?

Hmmm odd - I installed mine with no issues. Sat down flat and 'sealed'.
Perhaps you got a dodgy one?
And yes - I did take the gasket off!

So you can't slide it around underneath the cluster with the bolts tightened up? Something must be interferring with it. Hrmph.

I had no problem, either, after removing the rubber seal.
FWIW... I laid down a layer of the clear plastic covering that you can get at some auto stores... like Pep Boys.
Dirt, dust and water will get under there regardless of what you do... save your paint!
One other thought... did you run the velcro strips at the front UNDER the electrical wiring?

I don't think I did have the wiring loom under the velcro straps so I tried again, making sure there were no obstructions. It's closer but there's still gaps. See here....

opium,
I checked mine and it's close, but not perfect. The cluster doesn't seem to perfectly match the curve of the tank. My cluster sits tight from the bottom to about the Triumph logo, then I get a gap that maxes out at about 2 mm around the center of the speedometer and then it sits flush again from the top of the speedomter to the top of the cluster.

I am pretty sure I have it installed correctly. For me, that gap is unacceptable as it will let water in underneath the cluster and allow it to wiggle around on top of the tank causing all kinds of havoc. It's going back unless someone want's to buy it from me. Any takers? 20% off list.

If you're looking for a place to carry small items, get a winshield bag like I did. $20. I also had a concern about the paint being damaged that's why I opted not to buy the cover.

Water is going to get in there anyway. The rubber gasket does not seal the front of the cluster so if you ride in the rain, or wash your bike, it is going to wet underneath the cluster.
If fact, I don't believe the rubber gasket is designed to keep water out - it's just there to cushion the clust from the tank. With the tank cover, you actually have a chance of getting rid of water that goes under the cluster.

Well I am not so sure. From looking at the front of the cluster near the front forks it looks like it overlaps downward over the front edge of the tank. Yes, I am sure that water can get in there but you'd have to blow it up from the bottom. The cover on the other hand will allow it to flow in around the edges on top. I don't want the thing on there that bad and the fact that it doesn't seat well is just plain annoying!
