I think the T120 could be an awesome first motorcycle, particularly as it would be a keeper. While it may be a bit powerful for a first motorcycle, respect for the throttle will get you far. And the neutral riding position of the classic standard can be very forgiving of beginner errors in a way a sport bike or a more laid back cruiser would not be. That T120 is a beautiful and capable machine that should bring you miles and miles of happiness for many years to come.
The Water Cooled Twins Talk forum is where you can connect with other new Bonneville riders. Introduce yourself there, post photos of your T120, and join the banter.
Welcome from a fellow buckeye. I'm located in beautiful Wayne County. Where did you get your bike? I've been thinking of selling my T100 and getting either a T120 or a Street Twin. Both have features I really like. No change is imminent but it's on my mind.
Hey! Good to hear from a buckeye! Joe's Cycle Shop in Dayton. Another decent place is Iron Pony in Westerville. Iron Pony doesn't charge freight or prep. The sales guy I talked to there was great, but his coworkers were not so much. Joes Cycle Shop has really awesome customer service and they'll drop the freight charge if you push for it.
Heads up, the 2016 street twin and T120s are sold out nationwide so whatever is on the dealer floor is all they've got. 2017s are starting to roll out already. Pretty nuts.
