another new guy
I've been lurking for about a month now and decided it was time to join.
Some things about me. I am retired from the aviation field and started a powder coating shop about 5 years ago. I also teach metal shaping.
Back in the early 70's I owned three Triumph Bonnevilles. I was riding with a bunch of guys that happened to be the Triumph shrine unit in Atlanta. They got me hooked forever.
Why I joined this group. About a month ago I went to my local metal recycle yard. sitting in front of the building was a Triumph that someone turned in for cash.
I just could not let it get crushed so I bought it,,,, for $150.
I was told it was a 1967 Trophy, but checking the numbers told me it is a 1972 TR6R Tiger 650. It was last ridden in 1979 and has 16000 miles on it.
It sat for 35 years so you can picture what kind of shape it is in. The seat is missing, everything is either rusted of frozen, or both.
I am in the process of taking it all the way down. At this point I don't know if it will be a full restoration or a rebuild. There is a lot I can do, having my own powder coating shop is a plus, and making a new metal part is not a problem. I just don't have a lot of cash I can throw at it. This is my first time at taking one down this far and the engine is giving me butterflies in the stomach trying to get it apart.
I will be giving the tech guys a lot of attention.
