Thank you for making an old man smile. The email that stated HD has shops around every corner made me grin. There's a reason HD has so many shops! Believe me, when you see a group of riders on the roadside trying to figure out what's wrong with a bike, chances are it's an HD; but as most HD riders know, there's always a HD dealer at the next off ramp.
I don't like or dislike HD, when I was a kid you had to be a mechanic to ride and own an HD. I sort of think of HD like I think of an off-the-rack suit... at triple the price.
On my trip last year to Sturgis, SD, I even stopped to assist two HD riders who were on the side of the road. I carry a lot of tools (I don't know how to use most of them but incase I break down, the good samaritan maybe skilled.

anyway they said they had the situation under control, it seems the shift lever on one of the bikes fell off. I watched them for a few minutes and said that my older brother (dead now but an Ariel Four Square and Indian rider in the day) once used a pair of vise grips when his shift lever fell off. They thanked me for the info, and I went on my way, a few miles down the road I saw another group of HD riders on the side of the road, I stopped again to offer asssitance but they said they were waiting for a couple of riders in their group to catch up. I told them about the two riders I met a few miles back and told them what the problem was. They thanked me for stopping and I went on my way. I often wonder if my 2nd hand suggestion about the vise grips got the rider to the next off ramp?
We all rider and we should try to assist each other when possible, regardless of the ride.
