There was an ECU update that was released last year that corrected an idle issue and also took care of my backfire problems. Maybe the dealer didn't apply it to the new '08 that you bought if it was an application for '04 through '07 models.

I don't know, just tossing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

Cheers !!!
I know when I bought it this past weekend, they too it off the showroom floor and along with adding things like oil and other fluids, they told me that they were going to apply an ECU update. So I assume that it's indeed up to date.

BTW.... what the heck is an ECU?

Anyway... I've been riding to and from work all week. And of course getting ready to hit it now. YAY me!

Hey Kroburger
Remember, you own a Triumph. If you’re looking for IQ in your ECU you'll be SOL.

I second or third the Welcome to the forum.

At your 500 mile check up, ask them to look for an air leak (hose) or (electrical connection). Others have reported a backfire on an 08 that was a lose hose.

I think you pegged the exhaust tone correctly. And over time you will really come to appreciate this bike. From the bike reviews I understand your 08 handles quicker than my 05, living in the LA area you will need quick steering.

Keep your chin up in the corners and never trust a cager.

Hey Krothnbrg,
I have a R3T as well, and I work in City of Industry and live in Fullerton. If you and Boz are up for it sometime PM and let's see if we can't set something up.

I've seen a thread somewhere speaking about the engine whistle you're talking about. Can't recall exactly what was said. But the airbox configuration, and the induction at the intakes were what made the music you're hearing. I could be wrong... Any techs out there who can share some info?

Well after reading another thread where the description of the 500 mile service is nothing more that a glorified oil change... I decided that I'm going to do it myself.

I have the little handbook that came with the bike and that's good for me to do the oil but does anyone have an idea where I can get a shop manual for the 08 R3? I'm a do it yourself type and would find it to be an absolute value.
