Poll: Have you had transmission problems???
I posted this poll @ r3owners.net. Thought I'd do it here as well. Please post an explaination of the type of trouble or even if you haven't had trouble.

My ROCK has had issues where it would come out of second gear above 3500 rpm. I have had it to 3 different triumph shops. Now it comes out of 4th when I come off the throttle and is near impossible to get into neutral.

Anyway I just want it fixed... Would like to hear others experiences Bad or good.

Pleased with Triumph.
My bike got stuck in first gear with only 25 miles on the clock. One of the springs on the shift fork came off. This is a problem that no one I have talked to since has ever seen before, and I consider it a fluke.
Triumph was extremely good in resolving the problem, and helped me to deal with @$$hole dealer that did the repair. The techs did good work on the trans., but the management wanted me to pay for the tow to the shop, on a week old bike with 25 miles!

Triumph had to set them straight, when I demanded they call Triumph, and I did not pay for anything.

I am very pleased with the response from Triumph corporate, and while the transmission is not silky smooth, I did not expect it to be, because of the torque it has to handle, and it gets better with the miles. 16,000 miles since the repair, trouble free.
I love this bike.

I pulled out of the dealership and couldn't get past second gear on my 07, had to turn around and go right back to the dealer. They said spring came off inside, haven't had that problem again, but neutral and first is sometimes tricky. Only had it pop out of second once, 1200 mi. on it now.

Not a single issue
Not one.
I regularly ride with the HD boys and they are amazed at how smooth and quiet the bike shifts.

I pulled out of the dealer after getting new fork springs. In 5th gear on the highway, I cranked it open and the clutch slipped quite a bit. I freaked out. I loosened up on the clutch cable adjuster and haven't had a problem since winding it out in any gear.

NYT,

I’m going on year four in category two of your poll. Of course Triumph has no limit to how many times they let you bring your bike in for the same warranty repair. Some of the people on this board would say that shows their good intent. Unfortunately, when YOU finally reach the limit to how many times you’re willing to lug your bike to and from multiple Triumph stealerships, your only other option is the legal system.

Back in 06’ when my Rocket was still hobbling along, each and every time I put my leg over the seat I was reminded of the fact that I was handcuffed to a lemon. And that reminder stung with every slippery shift of second gear …until the day it finally locked up. If YOU’RE lucky, when it finally craps out you’ll be close to a dealer that can (or will) take it in for repair.

Read post # 76 here: http://www.triumphrat.net/showthread.php?t=77332&page=8

The 2007 JD Power’s overview of the motorcycle industry found more than 20% of new motorcycle owners had to take them in for repairs. That shouldn’t come as a surprise. What I thought was interesting in the survey was that 68% of the 8,796 respondents to the survey said they “definitely will” recommend their brand to prospective buyers. But that statistic is significant only when compared to brand loyalty for cars. The identical measure for automobile brand loyalty was pegged at only 35%.

Riding a bike is an emotional experience … and buying a bike is an emotional decision. You’ll find very few loyal bike owners opened minded enough to consider even the possibility that their bike’s manufacturer may not be the pillar of quality and virtue they once thought. Manufacturers understand that fact and they exploit it. To me, brand loyalty is just a measure of one’s inability to accept fact over feeling. But that’s just me.

Hey NYT, you may want to re-think your tag line.

In holding pattern
I'll wait a bit to add my "vote" to the poll. My 2005 RIII just had a shifter failure on Saturday. Floppy shifter and it's stuck in fifth gear. I have a REAL good idea what the problem is but talked to Triumph and they want a dealer to give them an opinion before they will decide whether or not they are going to take care of the fix.

I'll be back to vote after I get a ruling from Triumph.

RoadVenture,

You wrote in the Crybaby thread a couple of months ago “ … a huge number of problems people seem to experience with any bikes are self induced when they attempt to “improve” what the “stupid” manufacturers built”. So Dave, tell us …. what improvements did you make to your R3 that caused it to lock up in 5th gear?

If you’re feeling a little peeved, don’t aim your anger at busajack. He’s just trying to shed a little light into the asylum.
