Hey Sundazin I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Your post makes me a bit paranoid, as I too have an '06 classic with 18k miles and I was hoping this problem was corrected by the '06 model year. I have two months left on my warranty, so I'm going to try to put as many miles on it as possible and see what happens. I felt pretty comfortable about the bearing issue because I figured an under lubricated bearing would have failed by this point, but now I'm not so sure. Did your dealer confirm the bearing was installed backwards?

As for dismal sales, it's a limited edition, hand built bike that was never intended to sell like a regular prodution model.

It's styling was intended to envoke extreme reactions, one way or another (somewhat like the Victory Vision), which it obviously has with you. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. To each his own.
I have seen the RUNE in person and had the opportunity to ride one but passed on the chance. But there was no point in my doing so.

#1, the footpeg position is one that would not work for me.

#2, the design does not lend itself to being "messed with" by adding or changing the footpeg position.

Check my previous posts. I don't think I wrote that the RUNE is not a "remarkable bike". Quite to the contrary, it is. It also has no mass market appeal and is overly complicated and overpriced for the motorcycle buying market in general. With respect to it being a "limited edition, hand built" bike I believe that even if it were mass produced that it would become a still discontinued model in short order. The mass appeal is just not there. The Yamaha GTS1000 is another example of a bike with remarkable advances and technology that just could not support itself in the mass market.

As for "evoking strong reactions", I guess the RUNE does. It took a lot of it's styling cues from the, then popular, fender shapes. For me, the reaction is "wow, what great engineering!". I tend to look past the cosmetics and see what thought was put into making the machine work.

No trouble although I do find myself checking often thinking I have one gear left, Love the Torque Triumph!
