Exclamation Oil Filter Issues

So I bought my R3 used a year and a half ago, and well it's finally time to get the oil changed. So I got what I needed from the dealer, the oil, and the expensive oil filter (that's my opinion). I look at it and it's black, so I tell them that I have a chrome one. They told me this is all they have, and that it's a chrome sleeve. I believe them, even though they've sold me wrong parts in the past. Since I was getting a new tire at my local bike shop I gave them the filter and oil to take care of that as well. They tell me that it's not a sleeve, it's a chrome filter, and they think it came from the factory like that. I can't find anything like this on any thread, or forum. Does anybody know what's on my bike?

I have a chromed, steel sleeve, over a black triumph filter on my 06 rocket.
The sleeve just pulls straight off, but has the appearance of being a chrome filter.
I have seen some crossmatched filters for the bike, that are chromed. I would still put the steel sleeve over the filter, for protection.

My new 08 R3 has a chrome cover that pulls straight off. Underneath is the black Triumph filter. I just did this yesterday so it's fresh in my mind.

Can you buy the sleeve? Seems to me to be a good thing to protect the filter from the inevitable flying rocks.
