I am wondering if anyone has replaced the cat. with the triumph replacement pipe?? I know that most on the forum dislike the exhaust on the rocket, however, over the long winter I have grown to like the exhaust. I moved the after-thought license plate and turn signals and it has changed the whole appearance from behind. Anyway, my local dealer has one of these cat replacements, there is a horse power increase (12 to 18 hp I am told) and the tune needed with factory pipes will remove the 1st through 3rd power reduction. All I need to know now is, will it increase the sound. If it does, this could be a cheaper route to hp, eliminate power reduction and increase sound.

A penny for your thoughts.

Hey Mike,
Well, I think the sound is improved with a bit deeper and more aggressive growl, but then, that's only relative to a couple of Rockets I heard at the dealership, with the stock set-up.

I bought my Rocket from the dealer (Lone Star in Austin- higly recommended) with the cat bypass and Triumph pipes out the door. Only have about 200 miles on it over the past 5 days, and really haven't got on it hard yet. Per remarks mostly by RocketCowboy, I also had them install the Progressive 440 standard shocks and fly screen.

Hey Cowboy, you theer son??? Appreciate your many inputs. Was wunderin though, you got the Motolights mounted on your rig?

That'll be a 25-cents, Mike.

I have this setup. It isn't real loud, runs like a deer ( John Deere ), looks nice ( shorter mufflers ), and has some popping on decel which I have grown to like. :-D :-D :-D :-D

Nope, I've got the Triumph Fog Light kit, I don't really see much different, I have my headlights adjusted so that the low beams are hitting the ground about 15 ft out front which makes the high beams work real well, so I keep it on high beam all the time night and day, adjusted them so they look a little more toward the center instead of left into oncomming traffic, the fog lights real catch your eye in daytime, I've ridden in front of my bike on a friends bike and looking back at the RIII with fogs on in daytime, it really is bright, but I dont think they add much at night.

Hi there mike, get rid of that cat box for sure!! mine is sitting under the workshop bench, where it will stay! it weighs over 12 lbs!! having had a good look inside the exit pipes with a dentists type mirror it is very restrictive to flow,----if you took a dozen monkeys, got them drunk and put them in a cage with a big box of old victorian plumbing parts they could do a better job!! :-D I was going to fit the triumph de-cat pipe until I saw the price---£330 sterling or $627 @ $1.90 to the £, maybe the price is cheaper in the U.S. but I think that is unreasonably high having seen one, even though it is stainless. The off-road pipes at £350 ($665) for the set is a reasonable deal for three shiny chrome silencers in comparison. having started my engine without the stock pipes but with the cat box in place I was surprised just how quiete it was, but my cat box does have a catalytic converter inside, does yours?? on the left hand side of the cat box is stamped a letter 'C' (cat inside) or an 'N' (no cat inside) ( the 'N' will look like a 'Z' cos of the angle it is stamped)
If the no-cat box is similar internally to the with-cat box then it too will be restrictive to flow, and the de-cat pipe will be an improvement, especially with the re-tune
regarding the re-tune; from earlier posts;
tune #
20042 (20050) std mufflers with cat
20045 (20053) off road mufflers with cat
20048 (20055) std mufflers without cat
20049 (20056) off road mufflers without cat
20046 (20054) off road mufflers-no cat box fitted

the 200** series numbers are the triumph factory tune codes, the numbers in brackets were given in a later post and may be more recent codes :???: (anyone have more info)??
It appears that the combination of std mufflers and de-cat pipe (no cat box fitted ) is not listed---or am I mis-interpreting??? have a trawl through earlier pages-- theres stacks of posts on this topic
so,get the de-cat pipe fitted,(provided you are happy with the price) -ride/listen to your bike -want more volume?- go for the off road mufflers , but before you lay out the bucks maybe you could find another rocket with this combo to hear??? other riders impressions are subjective and personal--I have heard the de-cat/off road combo and I love it!! --one of the main dealers told me the de-cat pipes were REALLY popular!! Regarding the 10/ 7 % -1st, 2nd, & 3rd gear torque reduction, again lots of previous posts on how to circumvent the limit, but if anyone knows absolutely which tunes do/dont limit torque please jump in here!! I was going to make a de-cat pipe for myself, but i'm going a step further and making a complete system using 2 inch stainless,3into1into2, or 3into3 if I can get 2 of the large stainless mufflers i've purchased to clear the hard bags ive fitted. whichever way you go, enjoy your Rocket!! :-D

My Dad opened the cat on his Rocket, gutted it, then welded it back up. Sounds much better, says it runs much better too. Later he drilled the silencers as well, has a much deeper tone to it.

Hey Jay, the Aussie bikes dont have the full cat converter inside, instead just a couple of baffle plates so they are not too restrictive.

I was given a price of $320 US for the cat bypass installed. It doesn't sound to bad if you consider the cost of new slip ons.
