Hello,
I am 6'6" and test drove a rocket roadster last weekend. Loved it, except for one thing. I had a lot of cramping in my hip and not much ability to lift feet to move around to shift and brake. When I looked at the set up, the brackets for the foot pegs are welded to a bar that runs horizontal. I know that there are no aftermarket peg lowering hardware for these bikes, but could the brackets be cut off and rewelded forward a few inches to reduce the cramping? Barring that, is there any other options for someone with long legs?
There is a forward control kit. One of the members here is also a few inches over 6' and had the forward controls installed and he has raved about how much better the position is for his long legs. I will try to see if I can find the link for it.
Me, I had the highway bar installed and put some highway pegs on it. It provides great relief for my aging, arthritic knees.
What year was the bike? I ended up getting a 2007 classic because the controls and footboards are placed further forward on earlier models. I haven't had it long (a week and the weather was nice only one day), but after a 2 hour ride i felt great!
It seems to me that moving to the forward floorboards from the classic would be easy enough since it should be a matter of using pre 2010 linkage and rails but nobody's marketing a kit.
An R3T may suit you comfort wise.....of course it has bags and windshield. Not sure whether you must have a naked screamer, or can do a screaming tourer. In any case the later models are all more reliable in some very important ways.
I like the roadster gauges better than the old ones but, I like the old exhaust better and the older bikes suspension will most likely be soft in comparison to a new bike. There's the tranny that got improvements after 2009 also so buying used will take a bit of research.
I know what you mean. I'm 5' 9" though but I got the same issue with cramping hips. Nearly sold the bloody thing the next day. What I did was move the bars back though and it was like night and day the difference in comfort.
Does Rivco still make the bar riser? Pricey, I paid $225 for mine and still have it wrapped in the box it came in in my garage.
