My fans do not stay on for very long. I am actually considering modifying the wiring harness, to allow the fans to run after the bike is shut off. Right now, my key has to be on, before they run, no matter how hot the engine is.

Have you made sure there is no air in the cooling system? Air(steam) on the sensor will make the temp sensor read hotter than actual, causing the fans to run more.

What benefit would you expect to see by running the fans without circulating coolant? Convective heat transfer benefits without active circulation would be minimal. That said, I could see a benefit when OAT is very high and you were starting/stopping the bike repeatedly.

The coolant still circulates somewhat after the engine shuts of the temperature differences between coolant in the block and that in the radiator. The engine temp will continue to climb also immediately after shutting it off. The '03 Speed Triple I had would run the fan an additional 30 sec or 1 min after shutting off the ignition.

So I wonder why they changed it? Which is better? Pigger can you call John and ask? Bet he won't say that OEM battery for the Rocket is such a cheap pos that it couldn't take the stress of turning that fan without Alt.power.(Motor Running)
