Cool Anybody?

Has Anybody had starting problems after having the first tune recall in 07, as in cold starting (cranking over) taking longer than normal? I have had a chance to ride mine more than a couple days in a row now, and it has started harder than normal even after riding it over 125 miles in the last 3 days, each day it starts like I have not started it in a month? I have started the bike and have been able to ride it over the last 3 months at 30-70 miles at each time, down the hiway @ 2500-3200 rpms at each time, and have gone through more than 3 tanks of gas through the winter so far. Gas has not sat in the tank for more than 6-7 weeks, battery seems not to be the problem, but the time it takes to start the bike is much longer than normal ?? anybody, thanks.

Same issue...different tune

Yeti,

I regularly start and ride the Rocket over the winter months. From the first year I've owned it, I've noticed that it takes much more cranking to start the bike. The bike has never failed to start even in 20 degree weather. I have not had the recall tune put on the bike yet. This will happen sometime in March when the bike goes in for the 20k service. Thanks for the heads up. I'll pay close attention to the cold or warm starting habits of the bike after the new tune is mapped.

Luke

You live in Colorado right? Shouldn't you be putting 120 miles on a snowmobile rather than the Rocket?

Have you performed a 12 minute tune? See if this makes a difference.

I assume you are very happy with your electric clothing.

Had the same problem with cold weather starting.
Got tired of jump starting the rock every time it dropped below 35. Got me a pc625. no more problems.
It seems to be a lot better at cold starts. Havent had to jump it since the install. ya'll take care, xhdskip

I bought my Rocket with 1552 miles on it from a guy in Cincinatti, in November of `04. From the day I brought it home, it never seemed to me to have quite enough ooomph for the size and torque it was up against. But even though there were many times I thought it wasn't gonna geturdone, it always did until this last winter. When I went to the local Yamaha dealer (`cause we ain't got no Triumph man) I asked if there was anything stouter. He checked his book and Lowe and B. Hould Yusaba, or whatever it's called, had a new edition with an "H" after the model numbers. An "H"! Can you imagine? Well, I bought the little black box of hope and it didn't disappoint me. It spins that torque demon like the pea in a whistle and like the OEM never did. PS: The Battery Tender seemed to have no effect on the old battery at all. I just don't think it was ever enough battery for the Rocket.
