Question Full Face Helmets

Decided to get a full face helmet...any suggestions on what to get? There are only a million to choose from and the prices are all over the board..!.. ..Some I tried on were pretty claustraphobic..too tight....or just seemed uncompfotable...! Anyone find one that is "Just Right" ?...Thanks in advance Rick

They are supposed to be tight enough that you feel the pads lightly pressing your cheeks. I got an HJC, but whereas I know its safer than my open face helmet, it was annoying to find I could not put on sunglasses before or after putting it on.

scorpion

scorpion exo-400 and exo-700 are good for the money and have lots of options available as add-ons. The two models are more or less equivalent except the 700 has a fiberglass shell instead of polycarbonate, and that accounts for the price difference. I suggest checking their web site and you will find a dealer locator on there; that will give you the opportunity to try them on at least.

You should probably try a few on as they're all shaped a little differently. I used to buy Shoei helmets because I knew they were good. The problem is that they didn't fit my head, 'large' was too large and 'medium' was too small. The Soumys didn't fit me right either (I've got a sloping, Neanderthal sorta forehead).
I had an Icon and liked it quite a bit, especially for the price.
I now have a KBC with the bomber 'nose art' painted on it. Georgous helmet, always gets comments but it's noisier than the Icon was. Earplugs solve that issue.
I don't worry about price too much as long as it passes Snell testing. I'm not going to wear a $50 full face but I don't see spending $700 either. I've got too many bikes to feed to spend that much on a helmet.
As vague as that was, I hope it helps some.

I like the modular or flip up helmets. I had a KBC flip up, good price but it had a cheap mechanism that eventually broke. So I bucked up and bought a Shoei Multi-Tec flip up. It is the best helmet I have ever owned.

This place had the best price on the Multi-Tec, you have to call to get a price though for some reason they can't advertise their real price. I got mine for about $160 below the listed price...

try the Shark RSR2 helmets if you want great carbon fibre full face job. LOts of pro racers are useing them. For looks, comfort, vents ect. you cant beat it. Helmets were also rated #1 on web bike world. Not too many people hip to shark yet!

It's all about the fit. You need to find a dealer who has trained staff who have been there and done that. I have an Arai Corsair, which is expensive for sure.

So is my head.

I got it only after 30 minutes with our staff where there was so much information tossed around that I was fearful there might be a quiz at the end. Most people who are unhappy with their helmets, in my experience, bought one without expert help.

I used to have Shoei that I liked, and then an Arai, and now the Arai Corsair. The two Arais I bought with help, and they fit my head perfectly.

I have bought three Nolan N-100 modular helmets the last 8 years. Now called the N-102.

My favorite and most comfortable, if you wear glasses.

Everyone has a helmet builder that builds to fit their head. What works for me won't work for most other people.
Try on a couple of hundred before you buy.

I have a buddy who pretty much only wears the Nolan 100/102s. He wears glasses, is a serious long distance rider and also lives in NYC. He's 'tested' a few of his Nolans against the pavement and each worked as it was supposed to.
I keep saying I need to try one of these as well. The flip-up design is very handy when you wear glasses, ride slow or if you're making several stops (run into a store with a full-face and some people get nervous).

Interesting. Nobody mentions Simpson. They are good enough for The Stig.
