Drive Shaft Spline on RIII

My RIII has 17,700 miles on it and the drive shaft spline has split. Triumph is replacing the spline and other components damaged. The issue may be lack of grease on the spline. Not sure if this will be widespread or an isolated instance but just wanted to give other owners a heads-up that this may be an issue.

hey dr...where is there grease required in the layout of the shaft drive? Isnt both ends bathed in oil?

is this a different problem to the usual shaft thrust bearing going blow up?

Driveshaft spline

Iceman, ya got me. Unfortunately I am not up on the mechanics of these things. All I can tell you is what the dealer told me: The spline split. There is no requirement by Triumph to grease the splines as other makes with similar splines do, however, according to them, the RIII spline is set up to do so. The dealer said they are going to grease my spline and all other splines on RIII's that they service. I don't know what Triumph is going to say.

I would guess that this is a different problem than the shaft thrust bearing since neither the dealer nor apparently Triumph had ever heard of this happening before.
