New Owner and Member with questions

Just bought a 2005 Rocket III and will pick it up next week. I can't wait!! Ever since I took a ride on one at my dealership I have been in love. My question is since I bought it at a Triumph dealership I can get a discount on accessories when I buy the bike, what would you guys recommend I consider out of the Triumph catalog? The bike already has the sissy bar and back rest, as well as the Triumph offroad mufflers and muffler upgrade kit. Anything people own or wish they did from Triumph vs. the aftermarket that I can get later? Thanks for the assistance.

Do you want it to look naked or a bagger? Full windshield? Engine guards?

Aftermarket goodies

Congratulations on your new purchase and welcome to the club.

The first purchase I made was to add a windshield.
There are many shields that will fit the Rocket (some taller than Triumph's screen) but you will have to purchase the front end fixing kit first.

Boards are very nice for longer cruising. I purchased Rivco boards and have been very happy with them.

Finally I purchased bags. With carrying my old bag (wife) on the back, she loves to pack her accessories and what not...so bags are a must.
Again, there are many types out there that look great on the Rocket. I went with the leatherlyke hard bags and have been very satisfied with them.

All of your accessories are of course your personal preference.
Some of the goodies can only be purchased from Triumph but vast majorities of after marketeers have some very nice products at a competitive price for your Rocket.

To help answer your question, my dealer gives me a discount for Triumph accessories.

Good luck and happy accessorizing!
Luke

Congrats. Sound like it already has some of the major things I would get. You might check out the crash bars or front end fixing kit in case you want to get a windsheild or fly screen later.

Good questions. I will have to get bags and I was looking at the K-drive bags since they lock. I ride mostly on back roads (almost never on highways) so I guess I would like opinions on screens. I would like to keep it as streamlined as possible, but I do ride with my daughter on the back and need to be able to carry items for going back and forth to work. Just was wondering what other people had and what people either liked or didn't like. Does anyone have the Triumph heated grip system? I have always had heated grips on my bikes and love having warm hands on cold days. I don't know about the engine guards yet, but it something to consider. Does anyone have any of the Triumph screens (fly screen or sport screen since I would rather not have a full screen)? Thanks.

Wow as I was writing my reply I got more answers! Thanks for the posts. I think I will need to get some kind of small shield or at least the fitting kit. Crash bars are becoming more and more interesting. Thanks for all of the help.

screens

I had the fly screen and replaced it with the full touring screen.
I like the full screen much better as it blocks / deflects most flying objects.
That is not the same story for the passenger.
I have the Corbin Duel touring seat and my wife sits a few inches taller than I do. She gets the majority of the wind displaced by the shield.
I am sure at some point, I will have to get the Clearview screen (much taller) to combat this issue.

I did not go with the heated grips.
Instead, I went with heated gloves that plug into my heated vest that very conveniently plugs into the power port on the bike.

If you're not sure about the larger screens, have a look at the fly screen - I am really impressed with the effect it has, and I like the look (not to everyone's taste, but then again, neither are large vertical perspex screens...) This is a heavy bike, so the engine bars may well come in hand - I haven't fitted them as I don't like the look of them which probably means I'll be dropping the beast in a couple of days.

I'd also think about upgrading the rear springs - Progressive 440's are one of the most commonly used.

Other than that, it sounds like you have all of the essentials. In the meantime - enjoy it.

I have both the fly screen and the Roadster screen. I ride with the fly screen about 90% of the time and put the Roadster screen on during winter or long trips. I find the fly screen very effective at blocking the wind the chest area, stopping you from feeling like a parachute..

The two screens mount at the same point with four bolts, so it only takes about five minutes to switch between the two.

OH.. One note: The rear seat!! I take my children on ride pretty often and they both HATE the stock passenger seat. My daughter is only 8 and doesn't weigh anything, and she thinks it's like sitting on a board. I opted for Triumph's gel passenger seat , and gel "low rider" seat for me. If you take your daughter for rides, or any other passenger, a different seat is a MUST have.

Dave,

Thanks for the post. My daughter is also 8 years old so that is great to know about the seat. I think to begin with I am going to opt for the fly screen with the front end fixing kit because I like the look. I will have to look more at the seats as an unhappy child on a ride can ruin a day!!!! How is the rider's seat for longer rides? I know this is a personal issue so I am sure I will get a lot of different opinions, but I like to hear what people say. I was looking at the dual touring seat from Corbin as well. Anyone have one and can relate their experience? Thanks everyone for your help.
