Clock and fuel gauge install

I'm heading over to MCC Villa Park to pick up my clock and fuel gauge today. How is the install on these items? I keep hearing the bike is prewired under the tank and it's just a matter of plugin everything in...any input would be great.

Piece of cake

Chi-Town,

It takes all of 20 minutes to "initially" mount the gauges.
Yes, there are two clearly marked plugs under the tank, toward the front for each gauge to plug into.
It is impossible to mess this up due to the fact that the plugs are different shapes and sizes for the corresponding gauge.

The time consuming part of this task is to evenly mount the gauges on the handlebars.
If you run into the situation where the handlebars are not exactly centered on the headstock, you'll have to loosen the bars and move them.
You'll find this when you locate the markers on the handlebars for the gauges (tiny marks like a centerpunch hole) and then try to position the gauges. They will not center seeing as the speedo/tach group is mounted on the headstock and the gauges mount on the bars.

The clock has a piece that is connected by two wires. Take a small piece of tape and fix this loose piece to the gauge face. This will allow you to have two free hands to work with.

Other than that, take your time when trying to put the housings back on the gauge bases. They fit tight and there will be no doubt, if you are anal like I am and want the guages to have the exact same angle as the speedo/tach and the equal gap between each gauge, you'll be taking these housings on and off a few times.

Good luck.
Luke

Well you were right about mounting those things just right Luke. My bars seem to be almost center as I measured them on both sides. It still seems like my right side gauge is a little further out then my left side one but it's so close I really don't feel like messing with it any further. How did you get yours spot on?

try and try again

I just eyeballed them to make certain all the faces were at the same angle and used a crudely built gauge (very narrow piece of wood) to ensure the distances were equal. Other than that, just took my time.
