What's the latest wisdom regarding pod filters for the RIII? I'm wondering if K&N ever came out with the little pod filters and how they might compare to Uni's. I think someone, a while back, suggested the Uni's were a fire hazard. I was really interested in doing this until I heard that. I'm willing to modify the BC if necessary to get the filters under there. Anyhow, I'd appreciate any feedback on the latest successes of doing this mod. Thanks-Ken B.
BTW--I just ordered Tuneboy so I will be able to get optimal tune for any modifications that I do.

K&N RU-2780 will fit under the claw.

Thanks Pig9r! I read through the thread you listed and looked at the other associated threads too. I saw where another guy installed the Unifilter RP605's. Would you still go with the K&N's if you did it today or would you consider something else like the Uni's. Thanks again-Ken B.

I considered the Uni's but after the fire and seeing how smooshed up they are under the claw cover I thought I would stick with the K&N's. Though they probably don't flow as well but I have had good luck with K&N.

Yes, I remember that incident. Could I get your opinion on one other thing...do you think the three RU-2780's are all that much more effective than a single K&N replacement of the OEM filter? Thanks again-Ken B.

I have had the three K&n filters for about 10,000 miles with no problems. You need to have a power commander installed to eliminate the popping. I get 147.5 rwhp and 158 torque with this setup. I cut the bear claw with a dermal to make it fit. Otherwise them are cramped up too much.

Hope this helps.

Yes there is quite a bit of difference. The stock setup is kind of like breathing through a straw. There also more intake noise with this set up.

No need to cut the bearclaw they fit without cutting. I did eventually relocate the coolant overflow tank to under the seat to allow more air to circulate. And yes you will need a PCIII or Tuneboy to richen up the fueling.

Thanks Dyehard! Sounds like we might be neighbors almost. Did you buy your '05 RIII at Myers in Asheville by any chance?

Thanks to some help from Dougl, I decided to go the Tuneboy route and just bought that on a group buy. I should receive that in about 2 to 3 weeks from now. With my TORS and cat bypass, I plan to install the 20500_2 tune unless I add the individual pod filters. If I do that, I believe I need to go with the 20500_3 tune. At any rate, while I'm waiting for Tuneboy to arrive, I'm trying to do my homework on what to do with regard to air filters. I've been a bit scared off on the Uni's due to the possibility of fire but I'm considering the K&N's.

Thanks also Pig9r. Looks like I will be using 3 K&N RU-2780's versus just replacing the OEM filter with the K&N TB-2204. Ken B.
