While I'm waiting for Tuneboy to arrive, I wanted to get the three K&N RU-2780's installed. Besides taking out the OEM air filter and putting on the K&N's, is there anything else to be done? For example, will I need to relocate the coolant overflow tank? Will I need to relocate any sensors? Anything else? Thanks-Ken B.

I eliminated the water collection canister totally. I just ran a overflow hose down. I moved the air sensor found in the plenum to just in front of the first pod filter. While I was in there I also took out the top set of butterflies. Hope this helps.

There's also a connector bolted to the plenum that has black rubber tubes from the throttle bodies to measure pressure. That needs to be tied down.

Coolant tank relocate is optional. I would remove all of the air plenum and intake tubing, the MAP sensor (square with vacuum lines running to it), needs to be reattached, it shares a fastener with the air intake tube that runs under the tank. Also plugged into the plenum is the air temp sensor, remove it from the bung and you will need to get K&N part number 62-1560, or some foam to cover the sensor, I would recommend the K&N to help protect it from water. Wire tie it as close to the throttle body openings as you can. If you plan on using the under seat air filter box as storage get K&N 62-1330 or 62-1340. There is a crankcase breather tube that runs to the air box from the engine. Some oil vapor will collect in the air box otherwise. Remove the short piece of tubing and put on of the K&N's over the flange on the engine. You will be able to feel the opening where the vent comes into the air box, it is toward the front and up higher.

Thanks Dyehard! Is what you are referring to as the water collection canister the same thing as the crankcase breather? Based on what pig9r said, I was going to put a K&N filter on that. Right now, I don't think I will remove the top butterfiles. From what I understand, the Tuneboy will make that more or less unnecessary. Thanks again for your suggestions. --Ken B.

Thanks dougl! I think what you are mentioning here is the MAP sensor that Pig9r speaks about. I wanted to ask you also if you relocated the coolant overflow tank. Pig9r says it's optional but apparently several are doing it for some reason. I want to make only the changes necessary to make the 3 K&N's work like they should. Thanks again-Ken B.

Thanks Pig9r! Thanks especially for those additional K&N part numbers. One of the reasons I asked the initial question was from wondering about whether I would need a crankcase breather filter and you answered that. Also, I would not have thought about covering the air temp sensor with the other K&N part you mentioned. All this is very helpful and I certainly appreciate it. Thanks again-Ken B.

I only had the unifilters on and I didn't feel they were blocked by the overflow tank. However, as Pig9r says, they get squished pretty good by the bearclaw. This has to interfere with the flow.

When you get the K&N's on, you should be able to see if the front one is blocked. If I was going to do this, I wouldn't want any of the filter surface contacting anything - tank or bearclaw.

I like your reasoning on this...very logical. I don't expect the K&N's to squish like the Uni's. So, hopefully, I will have no reason to move the overflow tank. I'm already starting to think about how I will protect the K&N's from rain. As much as I like the look of 3 K&N's standing out there, I think I am going to try to get the BC back over them for protection. I believe it was Pig9r that said the BC would go back on over the RU-2780 K&N's. Thanks-Ken B.

They will fit under the cover without modifying the cover or moving the coolant overflow tank.
