I washed the bike for the first time today and when I was done the speedometer wouldn’t work odometer was stuck on 149 miles (that was all the miles on the bike to date). Went to the dealer and he checked his service bulletins. There was nothing there in his bulletins about this problem.

When I turn the bike off and then turn the key on everything in the start up process works. The speedo goes to 140 and back. I start going for about less then a mile and the speedo dies. I just keep stopping and restarting until it finally worked. After about one hour after washing it was fine. I guess it just needed to dry out.

Did anyone else have this problem? How do you wash this beast without killing the speedo?

Lift the tank and give a good squirting of water repelant or silicone on all the connectors, solved mine , and worked for others .

Beats me buddy!
After 6 months of washings, rain showers, and 8,000 miles, I have had no trouble whatsoever with the speedo.
Except trying to decide who has an accurate one, mine or my riding buddies. No one ever seems to show the same mileage as the other bikes.

Thanks Everyone,

I discovered that removing the center bolt in front of the tank and lifting front of tank up and inserting the prop rod into the hole from removed bolt to hold tank in place.

Also, removing the front bolt on the bearclaw and removing the seat is all that I needed to do.

The tank lifted right up and I sprayed WD 40 (all that I had at the moment).

Hopefully that will protect the wires for now.

Ah the joy of the first bike wash... 149 miles, really great times.

Assuming you didn't over wash it, say by taking a power washer to it, I would put another 350 miles on it an let the dealer take care of the problem should it reoccur at the 500 mile check up.
