Got home last night after 12 days in ICU and a couple on the "floor". I have 8 ribs broken in one or more places, numerous large bruises and received 2 units of blood.. Once the chest tube was out and I could get off oxygen, there was not anything they could do that my nurse wife could not so we were given permission to come home. I still feel like I was run over but being at home is less stressful.
The man who hit me is still in jail. The longer he is there, the safer our roads will be. This guy, John Turpin?, a house painter, hit me from the rear at 35mph in 5 o'clock traffic on South University and never hit his brakes. The Rocket and I ended up beneath his truck for 100 ft before he was forced to stop by traffic around him. Thank God I was wearing my riding jacket and helmet. There was quite a crowd when I woke up to the EMTs and Firemen. The firemen had to lift his truck up to pull me and my bike out. Once they had, he left and drove straight home. He was arrested there for felony hit and run. He also has outstanding warrants in Pulaski and Saline Counties, not sure for what. MADD is on the case and is trying to keep us informed. Apparently, he can't be charged DUI because he made it home before arrest.
The Rocket is a total. I'm not sure if they will pay it off. Damages were listed at $10grand. I owe $14grand. The guy had high risk Farmer's Insurance but they denied knowing anything of the accident until yesterday. I have medical. My job says I can come back to work when I feel better even if I just sit at the counter. Ed's Supply has been great since I started there a year ago. I have $200/wk disability until I return.
