Finally broke down and bought the beetle bags from Corbin, probably one of the worst ideas I could have had? almost done installing and the bottom of the right side bag hits the top of the jardine pipe, not allowing the bags holes to meet the studs under the seat, can move the pipe up higher but cant take it down any lower, anyone know if the jardines have any other adjustments that can help, I called Corbin's (tech. line)? and talked to a some moron named Angela and she is telling me that the bag is not designed to run with the jardines because they sit to high, and that I should have known that before I made my purchase?? but when I made the purchase I asked Becky (whom I was dealing with) if the pipes would make a difference and was told (nope)? so now being that I'm dealing with Corbin and there (NO-RETURN POLICY) I might be out $1700? my one experience with this company has been horrible from day one, but this right side bag issue takes the cake. uke: Any help would be appreciated.

Bottom line Yeti, sounds like you goofed. No use lookin for others to blame or complainin', just offer them for sale on the forum, cut your losses a little and live to fight another day! Otherwise modify the muffler mounts to suit. We all stuff up occasionally.

You might be able to make a new bracket to lower the exhaust pipe and still run the Jardines??? Tap into the jardine pipe to lower it and make new bracket for attachment to bike???

Yeti,

I have Jardines that I installed, and I know how much of a pain that they can be....

However, my suggestion would be to take the pipes to a muffler shop and get them to stretch the single down pipe so that the right hand pipe (the rigid pipe, not the cross over) has a greater angle (more to the 180 degree than 90 degree)... thus making the muffler on the right side come out lower.

You may have to adjust the muffler hangers to accomodate the lower position.

The left side pipe will adjust down by working the crossover pipe. I had to adjust the crossover to lower my left side to work around the side mount license plate bracket.

At least with this method, you haven't p&ssed away $1700.

Good Luck

Glad you found a solution, but $1700!? Weren't the beetles at one time more like a "paltry" $1200 or so? (when Corbin introduced Rocket bags a couple years ago--I don't mean in the 1980's.)

What did they do to them to justify such a humongous increase on bags that were plenty pricey to begin with :???:

Shoot... I believe I only paid $900 for mine just over a year ago. I sure would not have a set on my bike for $1700.. Probably not for much over $1000.

They are great bags, and I'm glad I have a set, but for the price they're asking now, I would learn to like square, leather bags or be looking for an alternative..

Hey soccer, I point blank asked the rep (that was representing corbin)? if the jardines could somehow cause problems with the installation, and not only did she say (NOPE NOT AT ALL) she actually sounded like she new exactly of the pipes that I was questioning her about??? also, when I took delivery and unpacked the bags I noticed that the left side bag had scratches on the lid, nothing that some buffing out couldn't take care of, also in my case it was no big deal as I was going to paint both lids anyway, but I thought they should still know about it, so I called and they immediately blamed the ups, stating they've had lots of problems with them lately? by the way it was they're idea to ship them ups. I know that it wasn't the ups, it simply got past they're (corbins) quality control monkeys, and I paid the price for it. Then on the installation problem, they blamed the people who installed the pipes and even myself (THE CUSTOMER)? Yes I personally feel that it was a horrible experience!

P.S. Soccer, when I made my 1-800 call to corbin I called the number under the California location, but was switched through to the Florida location? you wouldn't happen to be one of those corbin monkeys I was mentioning, would you? Well thanks for your help, actually you didn't offer any help, your just one of those people that likes to rub salt into someone else's wound! I'd bet money your one of the BAD ones? jeerrk
