I ordered my exhaust today from MCC Villa Park but they cannot install until July 18th as they are pretty busy. Dave the mechanic told me if I wanted to save a few bucks I could install the pipes myself and then get the tune done anytime.

How tough is this install? He made it sound a bit tough but it looks like it is just a basic bolt-on...

It's not tough to install at all. I even used the exhaust seals from my original exhaust system. I didn't have many miles on it at the time. All in all, the removal and installation of the new pipes took about 30-45 minutes. It really is pretty simple.

Once you get the system installed and ride it, you will notice flat spots in the power range, along with popping on deceleration. It won't hurt your bike, but you will need to get the proper fuel map soon, or get yourself a DynoJet Power Commander or TuneBoy.

It is really easy to install. I paid for new exhaust gaskets as mine were pretty well crusted in the stock pipes.

Just to clarify I'm getting the FULL system from triumph not just the midpipe...

Yes.. the full system is the three mufflers and the mid pipe. The header remains in place.

I am thinking of doing the same thing, but if you are under warranty I would stick with Dave doing the work.

First, I think Dave Rocks. So far he is the best mechanic I have come across in the Chicago area.

Second, if you get stuck in the middle of the job it will take away your ride time.

Third, what is the rush? Why not wait until the end of the season for a mod that may take some tinkering.

Reread the comment about the popping and flat spots.

This time last year before the PC III had the bugs worked out, there were many many postings about the performance problems when only the new pipes were installed. If you do install the pipes without the PC and tune, you will have a good sounding bike that you will not like riding because of the performance. Given that your earlier posts were about clutch slippage over 100 mph and high speed shake, until the additional equipment is installed you won't be happy.

Do what you want. Free advice wait for the tech. The performance you are after takes the new pipes and the PC III and the tune. And given how dang short the riding season is up North - make certain of the completion date.

Clutch problem seems to be fixed with the adjustment to the cable the dealer made. I have yet to test the tire pressure and see if that fixes the wobble. Maybe the front tire is not balanced as someone else had said...whatever the case I love the bike even with it's few initial quirks.

I have a wobble in my front tire also. The tire was just installed a few weeks ago and I'm sure it's out of balance a bit. I will be getting a new rear tire next week at the Triumph dealer in Austin, and am going to have them balance the front as well. Hopefully that cures it.
