Hello all

I went for a ride on Sat, about 50 miles. Some slow traffic. When i got home i noticed a strange smell and found there was a 1 1/2 inch hole burned in the bottom rear of my right side beetle bag. I'm assuming it was caused by the exhaust gas. I did install TORS in the fall and left the slash cut ends instaed of re installing the cone ends. I do not get a temp light and the bike seems to be running fine, so I don't think there is a over heat condition. Has any one had a similar issue? I asked Corbin before buying the bags if they were heat resistant when i notice hoe closely they sit to the pipes and was told they were tested on that application. I have file a warranty repair request with corbin. Just wanted to see if any other captains have had similar problems. :???:

Pictures to come....

***** sorry about your luck. I was wondering the same thing when I installed my Beetle Bags. Not even a mark on them yet. I also have stocked pipes on my classic.

TBird,
I recently bought an 04 with TORs and Beetle Bags, both of which have been on for a while. No damage so far but I'm going to fit CAT by-pass shortly and wondered if you had already done this.
I'm going on a charity run soon which will involve about an hour at low speeds. I think I'll remove the bags as a precaution. I also have a problem with the left bag not closing and opening properly and it leaks, anyone else suffered the same?

Bummer. Since the pipes and ends are commonly installed genuine Triumph parts and not some aftermarket item, IMHO Corbin SHOULD stand behind their bags unless their product information specifically prohibits use of them with that particular Triumph accessory.

Now that you mention it, I don't have a hole at all, but I do have one bag that the paint has become flat.. like it has gotten hot. I have wondered about it, but not too much. But.... this past trip to Sturgis I was in a traffic jam for hours, just idling along. Not moving fast enough to cool anything down. I assume that this is when the bag got hot enough to burn the paint... I haven't even thought about this until I read your post.

Unless the bag is touching the pipe, as long as the bike is moving most of the time, there should never be enough heat to affect the bags.. but idling along in a traffic jam would definitely allow a bunch of heat to build up.

Hey Perdurabo I have the CAT bypass in place as well. I was actually thinking without the baffles and CAT to absorb some of the heat this could have been the problem. I have not heard back from corbin yet. I will say though I am very happy with the workmanship and function of the bags. I hope they will at least repair it under waranty. I will probably install some heat insulating material now and if they fix the bag as you can't really see that area easily.

Here's the picture

That's very unfortunate to say the least. I'd think that with the Cat box removed, there would actually less exhaust heat because you removed the catalyzation process which in itself produces more heat. My wife melted her boot heel on the right pipe on my Classic on a short ride in the country and no stop and go driving.

On the plus side, that should be an easy repair for Corbin or a local body shop. The paint match is another story but it ius underneath in a less than visible spot.

I'm curious as to whether Corbin stands behind the repair. I have seen some less than favorable comments from Corbin purchasers.

Good luck and I certainly hope the repair is timely and satisfactory.

Well.... It looks like Corbin is gonna come through. They contacted me today and are sending a shipper to pick up the bags tomorrow. The Corbin rep did say this is the second instance they have been made aware of. I'll post the results when all is said and done.

Have no complaints on any Corben product I have owned they have went over and above my expectations on standing behind there product. I bought a yoused bike with a Corben seat that developed a problem. They fixed it, no questions. Have Beetle bags and ferring, no problems yet. Stock system.
