R3 vs. Harley

I had wanted a Harley for 20 years years. When I finally found the time and money I reviewed all the specs and prices and narrowed down my choice to between a Rocket, the Fat Boy and Kaw-2000. I went to test drive the Rocket III first in May of 2006 and knew three seconds of letting out the clutch this is going to be the one. I made a deal and have never regretted it for a second!

I am a Mechanical Engineer and take care of high rise office buildings in many major sities. The Rocket III is one of the finest engineered machines they could have come up with. I hope they will someday come up with a nicely designed dash with a real oil pressure, oil temperature gauge and an acurate fuel gage. I've added the fuel gauge and it shows empty far too soon and the oil dip stick is OK but it might be better with a sensor factory mounted in the bottom end. Other than that I recommend this bike to anyone!

Not an easy decision. Cruisers like Harleys and V Stars etc. can do the job as well as sport tourers like the Breva and the BMW (I know the Sprint would be perfect but its too similar to my Speedy). So I narrowed it down to the Rocket, Road King and Breva (I know that they are different as all heck).

How does the Rocket compare to the other two choices?

:???:
I've been riding since I was a kid. I've always been partial to cruisers. When it came time for me to buy, what I intend to be the very last bike I ever get it was a toss-up between the R3 and a Harley Heritage. I road tested both on the same day. And the R3 won hands down. Here's what I based my decision on:

Acceleration
Comfort for the long ride
Agility & Balance
Smoothness
Breaking (especially hard breaking... think panic-stop)

There wasn't even a question. I got my R3 now 9 days ago and haven't touched my car yet. That includes about 3 hours in 100 degree weather yesterday. :-)

And all the Harley guys I know are drooling.

If you're adding to the stable that already has a Speed Triple in it, go for the TWINS look:
