I recall my first ride on your GS1000 back in say 80 or so. At the time, I was riding a BMW R90/6. Man was I ever impressed with the speed available from that GS! My hunch is your test ride on the Rocket will also impress you with the speed, braking and stability that comes from this machine.

Not an easy decision. Cruisers like Harleys and V Stars etc. can do the job as well as sport tourers like the Breva and the BMW (I know the Sprint would be perfect but its too similar to my Speedy). So I narrowed it down to the Rocket, Road King and Breva (I know that they are different as all heck).

How does the Rocket compare to the other two choices?
You got the different right. I own both a Rocket and a Road King *because* they are so different. Though some here will consider it heresy here I'm going to tell ya flat out the RK is a more comfy and more practical *touring* bike than the Rocket ever will be (not to mention it has a gazillion aftermongers making a gazillion things to improve anything you don't like about it in that regard).

OTOH the RK is not nearly as exciting in the twisties OR a straight line as the Rocket (they don't call 'em Geezer Glides for nothing  ) I have the RK because of the volume of miles I do and the places I go (GFL finding tires for a Rocket in some hick town in the boonies but if it's got a Walmart it's prob'ly got a Harley store).

You give percentages but not volume of miles you do. Since you are even considering a Breva (one of the least ideal choices for a touring bike I can think of except for hardcore sportbikes), I'm guessing you don't do humongous iron-butt caliber miles as a rule. Bottom line in THAT case: get the Rocket and get more bang for the buck

CEC,

Did your rider think the Breva was as comfortable as the Rocket?

No she did not, but the Breva did not have a backrest like my Rocket does and that may have added to it. I did not think that it was as comfortable as my Rocket.

I used to have a Valkyrie Tourer(great bike for 2 up also). Sold that for an 05 RK Classic. The Rk is very comfortable but that's about it. I regretted selling the Valk. I then bought an 05 R3 and yes it's fast,is different, handles pretty good but I still don't think it's better than a Valkyrie for touring purposes. My 2 cents worth.

Tourch,

That was a dirty trick. Just when I was narrowing it down you had to bring up the Valkyrie. :brk:

Great engine, great ride. Also, as sbljr noted (I wonder what that stands for?) parts are a lot easier to get.

BUT I visited the Triumph dealer this weekend and spent a little quality time with an R3. :smug:

I like it. The decision is now whether I get the version with the black engine or the silver.

Rambo,

We have countless....yes countless useless threads on the SPeed Triple forum about which color is faster. It is all a waste of time and effort to get into this foolish debate.

White is the fastest S3 and I agree that a black engine as a bit faster. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

Swanny, I also have a Rocket and a Road King but I only ride the Road King if I have to for business reasons but when I do, I fantasize that I'm riding my main bike, the Rocket Three. It would be a bit like being married to two women one being the current Miss Universe. A'hem, me thinks we'd better not take this any further otherwise I might be cookin' me own dinner tomorrow! davo
