Ok, I know its not really a fair fight- more like a slaughter but I'm sure some of you will appreciate the story anyway. I pulled up to the line and sitting next to me is a VROD with a overly enthusiastic
HD enthusiast (big ugly orange HD jacket and all the matching gear). He looks at the rocket and revs his engine. I just sit there in disbelief because this guy is really going to go for it. The light turns green and I crack the throttle. I look back before I shift into second and he is way back. It felt good. If he didn't embody the ****ty HD attitude that seems to be omnipresent I would have gone easy on him. I doubt he'll tangle with an RIII again.

My very good buddy owns a VRod....well actually it's his wife's bike.
He has been touting that thing all spring and summer about how fast it is and how well it handles.
We have been going back and forth all summer about getting together on an early Sunday morning to see who is the "big dog" in the group.
Well, about three weeks ago it finally happened.
We got together about 6:30 am and headed out to the expressway. Of course we were hitting it hard on the way there. Like 3x said, I had no problems destroying the VRod off the line. My buddy was really getting pissed about the (lack of) performance by his VRod. By the fourth or fifth stoplight launch....he wasn't interested in trying anymore.
So when we finally got to the expressway, we cruised at 60 (in high gear) side by side and hit the hammer.
Again, no contest....until the Rocket hit 140 and then he started to close the gap.
This went on for about 10 miles and he finally caught me.
Of course....all he talked about was how he caught me at top speed.....and of course he failed to mention that the Rocket is restricted!

V-Rod vs Rocket III, that's like taking a knife to a gunfight isn't it.

I would agree with you....cause I'm the Rocket owner.
The Hardly guys ride a VRod and FIRMLY believe the VRod is the end all, be all super bike.
Their only comparison is the vanilla, cookie cutter 88 or maybe 95 "incher" Hardly with absolutely ZERO performance. So they jump on a Porsche made motor and believe that they've found the promised land!
Have they missed the boat or what?!

Give 'em a break. V-Rods are nice bikes. They're more in the class of the Sportster, V-Max or smaller Triumphs. Imagine a 2000 cc V-Rod. They're the most interesting thing Hardly has ever come up with.

That is very true.
It is a comfortable bike to ride for the short haul.
Throw a turbo on it and you would really have to hold on tightly!

:hammer: :hammer: Good he deserved it!! The Harley guys can't stand that the name just doesn't do it anymore, furthermore there is a new king on the road. The R3 just makes the Harleys look dull and unimpressive. Harleys are jsut another widget. :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
