Recently traded my Sprint ST for an 06 Rocket - loved the Sprint but I couldn't be happier with the change.
At the first service I had the dealer add the fuel gauge. First impressions are that I've wasted my money on this accessory. I'm still adjusting to the mpg. I had done 180 miles since my last visit to the gas station and the gauge showed half full - I felt that it should be about a quarter full at best. I then filled the tank literally to the brim and the gauge went just above half full. I can accept that a scientist wouldn't use the gauge to measure fuel I'm just looking for some piece of mind on a long run.
Is there anything that I can do to calibrate the gauge - it didn't come with any directions if there is something that I still need to do.
cheers George

hey g264, i bought the guage and will fit it when i do my risers. i would think it gets it's signal from the "float" in the tank just like the warning indicator on the tach. i had my bike in at 180 miles for a problem and had them check the light coming on to early also. now mind you i told him at least 5 times that the light came in just as i pulled into the shop. ergo.. tank holds 6.3 gallons, light is on... add fuel to top off and see at how many gallons the light came on. nooooo... he gets a wooden stick makes all these marks on it to show how many gallons, rides my bike for 75 miles ( i kidd you not) re checks his stick and says everything is set to where it should be now... bs.. pick up the bike and it comes on at 3.3 gallons used, just like before. i'm now ready to yank the tank , remove float and bend the rod to correct height. f... this isn't "rocket" science.

tatonka, well you see in my view is this is an easy fix and since i paid 15,500 the ***** thing is going to work right. now all i need is to know at how many gallons the light is supposed to come on at and i'll take it in as many times as needed. just can't excuse ignorance..

My fuel light was pretty erratic at first. It would come on at 90 miles or 150 miles, or anything in between. But it has settled to coming on at about 130 miles, give or take a few. I'm averaging about 35 MPG, so I'm figuring it comes on at the 2 gallon mark.
Still a little early, but I know I've got another 70 miles, give or take. I'm pretty happy with that. I also use the trip meter.

Hey G2
Trust the trip counter, I reset with every fill up. Like Dave the light comes on after about 146 miles. I kind of like having another 70 miles in the tank and not feeling like I have to immediately buy gas. I opted to not have the fix made at the 500 mile check uo. And yes my understanding is you do just bend the float level to correct the problem. And this is a warranty item.
None of that really helps you calibrate that gas gage, nor eliminate the disappointment in buying a part that doesn't work right. Especially given how frequently you look at the part.

I feel your pain about the cost vs. benefit issue.
I noticed that (on my bike anyway) the low fuel light goes out after about 10 miles, then comes back on later. Then goes out, and comes back on. But with 6.6 gals capacity, and about 35 mpg, the bike can go much farther than my butt will agree to.
Be safe.
Mike

Mine comes on with 2 gallons left consistently. I rely more on the tripometer but still pay attention to the light as my mileage varies from 30mpg to 40mpg depending on speed, in town or freeway, wind and if anyone is around to race.
