The Triumph website is updated with the 2007 models and some prices have dropped, namely the Rocket III price is a thousand dollars less for 2007 over 2005 and 2006.

I am guessing that the 4.9% finance offer will not be renewed as it must have been subsidized by Triumph at a cost of a thousand dollars per bike.

Price drop may apply to all unsold Rockets. Baxter usually lists new bikes on their website at MSRP (yes, they do negotiate) and they now have their leftover 2006 Rockets listed at $1000 less than old MSRP.

A dealer told me yesterday that the list price on the forthcoming '07 Rockets will be lower than the current list. Based on what his rep has said he thinks it'll be about $1k less but the actual info isn't out there yet.

Ah, but the actual info is out there. The official Triumph website lists the standard Rocket for $14,999.

Methinks they've over-produced what is never likely to be a mainstream machine.

I'm sure it was also to get the price closer to competing top-of-the-line muscle cruisers. Never mind the fact those others are all (yawn) me-too genericruisers from the same old V-twin cookie cutter while the Rocket is truly unique and exclusive, Triumph has never been into prices higher than the competition just for snob appeal. Those of us who negotiated off the $15,990 price thought it was worth every penny at the time...and it was! Now that they've recovered at least some of the dev costs and can afford to lower the price, that makes it even more of a bargain

Regarding the price strategy. Last time I checked, the price of the Rocket was a couple of thousand higher than the metric twins and five to eight thousand lower than the Motor Company. Getting more Rockets on the road by going head to head with metric twins on the basis of price might sell more Rockets. The also have the opportunity to build the bike that goes after the BMW, HD and Goldwing in the above twenty thousand range. Maybe that Rocket comes out in 2008.

I also have noticed the exclusion of the Rocket in the big bike magazine comparisons or more correctly "big twin" comparison this year. Getting the price down and getting head to head comparisons should improve the Rocket and get more Rockets on the road.

Agree with most of what you said, however HD has no real Rocket competitor. They have the Vrod which is priced competitively, but is half the displacement and somewhere between a muscle cruiser and a "street fighter" IMO. Traditional Harleys like my Road King are in no way shape or form rivals to the Rocket. They are totally different beasts that offer a totally different kind of riding experience.

The Japanese muscle cruisers are Rocket competitors in the sense that the same buyers would look at them, but those with more plain vanilla taste (the majority) will go for the known quantity at their local riceburner shop. Lowering the price a little might encourage a few more of them, but not many, to be a bit more adventurous
