Now that the temperature is getting colder in my area, my 05 Rocket seems to crank quite a bit when starting in the morning. I wouls say it cranks for about three seconds before it fires up. Is this normal, thanks.

Mine's the same way. I've noticed if it's left outside, i.e. when on tour, it takes some cranking to get it going. I don't know why it should matter to the EFI but on this bike it apparently does.
The battery doesn't turn it over any slower, it just takes more revolutions before the motor starts. Makes me wonder what would happen if I relied on it for commuting during the winter when it would have to sit outside for 12 hours in freezing temp's.
Yes, based on my experience for a cold start on a cold day - 3 seconds is about right. Once it has warmed up, even on a cold day the bike should start quickly.
