Hi guys I'm looking to replace the rear shocks for some 440's and would like to keep them the same size but what is the stock size? Also I weigh 190lb so should I go for standard or heavy duty and are these 440 shocks rearly that good?

Thanks

Beast-Rider,

Plenty of postings on this subject. 12.5" is stock. A search on shocks will show you that most riders have gone with the standard in your wieght class. With all the beer I drink and closing in on 60 years, I'm a bit north of your wieght of 190 lbs. Unless you do a lot of 2-up riding, the standards appear to be the best bet. 90% of my riding is 2-up, so I went with the 12.5' HD's Progressive 440's and am real please with them. They made a big difference, especially going over those dam raised "bump-ups" that I encounter sometimes on the NYS Thruway (I-90).

At 5' 7", the 13" were too tall...I know because I tried them. Just that half inch made it so I couldn't get both feet flat down It cost me a little $$$, but I got Progressive to exchage them for the stock lenth of 12.5".

Ride safe,

Dick

Yes, buy the shocks. You won't need the HD option.

Find your favorite road bump and do a before and after ride. In my experience I was continually bottoming out the shock and the first 600 miles or so it was like not having a rear suspension. Replacing the shocks , I actually feel the rear suspension moving like intended.

You can also adjust the shock setting to 5 to improve the ride, and from another post I understand you can also just replace the spring on the stock shock. You do have options.

I'm a bit on the large side at 6' and 260lbs. I've fitted the heavy duty 12.5" 440's and had to wind them right back to their softest setting and... still wish I could wind them back more. Since I can't I'll stick to drinking beer and dodging salad. Go with the standard 440's

Thanks for all the info guys Have just received my 440's from over the pond and fitted them today. Went out on a bumpy lane and boy what a difference they defiantly soak up the bumps. I have them set on the lowest setting and seems fine to me but will look to set up as I go on.

Once again thanks for the advice

I got 12.5 inch standard 440 as Dick suggested, stock number 440-4209C they are on the lowest setting and so far so good. Planning to tour Spain in two weeks so I may have to adjust them up a bit depending on how much luggage I take.
