What's with these krappy Metzler rear tires? I thought you guys were pulling my leg with your tales of replaceing them at @ 6K miles and such. I baby this thing and yesterday as I stared at my rear tire and talked to other on-lookers about it's massive size, I noticed some strange streaks running down the center of the tire. What the heck? Upon closer investigation, I realized it was the CORD showing through!@!!! I ONLY HAVE 8479 miles on it and ride it like an old man (which I am)!!!! How can this be??? I swore I would baby my way to 10K miles & I'm not even CLOSE! At $241 a pop this is rediculous! PLEEZE somebody in Japan make an alternative to this Metzler rip-off! I can buy 2 cheap Dunlops for my 77 for half as much & they'll last twice as long or longer! SOMEBODY do something before I go broke trying to keep rubber on this thing! :hammer:

You're actually doing pretty well at 8500 miles. I have 7300, drive the same way, and I'm due soon.

That's what I got out of my first tire too. I did swap it for another Metzler, but will be going with a car tire like alot of the other guys have after this one..

The tire is super soft and sticky, I did not realize how sticky until I took a look after a short ride the other day, It actually stuck to my finger like gum almost.

The dunlops are an awsome tire for highway use, I used them on another bike also. I dont know how they would last on the rocket, I think they would spin quite a bit and wear away pretty quickly also.

I have accepted that I will have to take the good with the bad...I keep a coin jar in the corner of my room...That is going to be the rear tire fund.

Mine was changed out at I think 8,500. Could have gone a bit longer but was taking a solo trip and my Bear Man did not want me taking the chance of a problem on the road. When he took the tire off it was "out of round" too. I sure was not happy about that finding.

pardon me if i'm asking the obvious, but are you saying there is only one tire available for the r3? are there no higher-mileage alternatives?

and before you ask ... NO ... i won't consider a car tire for a bike. for me that's a no-brainer. literally.

TIA ...

As of today there is only ONE motorcycle specific tire for our bikes...the Metzeler's.

I've managed to put 9500 miles on my set of tires.
Sending it in next month for the 10,000 mile checkup and to replace the back tire.
I have a "slight" flat spot but no cords/belts hanging out.
