Riding the R III to the annual Tomahawk Colorama Rally the weekend of September 15th, 16th, and 17th. Sure, it's supposed to be a Harley event, but it's also an MDA fundraiser.

Tagged base with several of my old Milwaukee Iron croanies, and they're looking forward to seeing me and the Rocket. Not sure which of the two that they really want to see.

Will be staying in Wausau thursday evening, and then in Tomahawk for the rest of the weekend.

Packing for an event in the fall that's in northern Wisconsin is sometimes tricky. The weather can range anywhere in the spectrum. One morning, you're in shorts and a tee shirt, and by mid afternoon, you might need Sorel pack-boots.

Will be watching for any other Rocketeers who happen to venture there for the festivities.
See ya there,,,

Cheers !!

Saw one other Rocket III sitting amongst the hundreds of Harleys on main street of Tomahawk Wisconsin during the Fall Rally. Stopped by to chat with the owner who was proudly perched atop his ride. But he just wanted to thump his chest about the tribal paint scheme and bolt on horse power enhancers that gives him 174 ponies grazing in the paddock than have a nice talk. Wasn't just being informative, but a bit belittling due to me not having the same options and modifications. Oh well.

Must have noticed he wasn't impressing me or my friends, 'cause there was a little apology and a wish for me to have a safe ride.

Not discouraged though. Next time I see a R III sitting somewhere, I'll stop again to say hello.

Had a good time during the weekend, but, picked up a finishing nail in the rear Metzler. Was so glad that I took along an el-cheapo tire repair kit that I had purchased out of one of those $3 tool bins at a truck stop a couple of years ago. It worked perfectly for the on-road repair. Held up for the remainder of the trip and is still holding the same air pressure.

Have a small coolant leak that crept up. It's seeping out of the top bolt on the pump. Will be taking it in for the warranty.

See ya later,,,

Cheers !!

Greetings Apollo 18,

We recently relocated from Phly to Minneapolis in July. I just rode the bike up last week, with bypassing Chicago being the best decision I made and the second best being remembering how to use trash bags as socks and gloves for the last 200 miles of rain. Funny how non riders react when you tell them you plan to ride 1200 miles. And even more funny when you explain how enjoyable the trip was even with 400 miles of rain.

Maybe six months ago I questioned a fellow captains rationale for not slowing down in the rain. Other bikes slowed he continued. Now after my experience and even though I told myself to slow it down, I could not. Being properly dressed, the bike provided more stability and inspired more confidence than I ever thought possible. I now get his point.

I understand we are not exactly neighbors. However, I believe the most interesting roads are to my East in the general direction of Milwaukee. The Wis-Dell area is deserving of a second look. I am interested in other routes you would recommend.

Tom

I currently live in ohio but will always be a "brew city cheese head".

That said I have some thoughts as to riding areas in Wisconsin.

Head to the La Crosse area on back roads...I miss that ride, coming from Minn. you might want to just get lost back there and YES Wisconsin Dells is a great area to ride through, just be sure at dusk your looking for the deer. They will find you if you don't find them first.

Miss that state!!

Tall;

I too have been in the Wisconsin-Dell area, and it is absolutely wonderful...

With that said, please do watch for deer.. moose too... actually the deer can get as big as a moose..

Further north are Bears... and that can be interesting at times.
