I just got a solo rack from Rivco for my Rocket. When I install it with the enclosed spacers and hardware as per instructions the middle of the rack pulls into the top of the fender. It is obviously the angle as the rack seems to match the radius of the fender well. I think it can be easily worked around by getting some different spacers and using a much larger one at the top hole than what was supplied or maybe relaxing the angle of the mounting portion of the rack. Has anyone else run across this; I'm wondering if this is common or if my rack mounting surface was bent to the wrong angle and I should get a replacement.

Sounds to me like you got a bad one. I have the Rivco rack and it was a perfect fit for my bike.

On my Solo Rack, there is a clear rubber spacer on the underside of the rack at the rear-most point that rests on the fender. Perhaps your rack is missing that spacer.,,,???
Either way, If it isn't right, get it replaced. It should fit correctly without any modifications.
Cheers !!!

There is no spacers or pads attached to the rack itself and none included in the acc. bag with the mounting hardware, only the three black (2 plastic large, 1 thin rubber) for the mounting bolts. The instructions don't mention anyhing about one on the rack itself. I thought the rack was supposed to follow the contour of the fender with a uniform gap but not contact it.

Same here--maybe they didn't get the curvature of that one quite right. These low-volume accessories are probably hand-made to some extent, so there will be occasional human error. Not to worry, Rivco customer service will take care of it.

Well my Bear Man read my posting. He said actually he did have to bend the rack a bit to make it fit correctly. But as apollo said there is a clear plastic stopper on the far tip that sits on the fender.

We have supplied quite a number of these racks with no reports of ill-fitting however it is always possible I guess. The best cure would be to shim the top hole with some washers until you get it just right. When bolted down tight, the plastic bump stops should be in light contact with the guard. Davo

I finally got in touch with the fabrication department at Rivco. It turns out that the problem was caused by the rubber bumper that should be on the tip not being installed at the factory. Actually, they said the rack is designed with an angle that would cause it to contact the fender (without the bumper). It should flex once installed (with the bumper)and tightened so it will have positive pressure and reduce vibration.
They sent me one. I stuck it on and the rack flexed out when tightened and installed great. The only comment I would make is there should be mention of the bumper on the installation directions and description; I could have damaged my fender if I hadn't of looked from the side before tightening it down. Thanks for all the replies.

Glad you got it straightened out. IF I were ever going to put very much weight on I'd replace that lil' bumper with at least 2 larger, felt-bottomed feet to help avoid any possibility of paint scuffing. Since most of us get the rack for its looks and only tie lightweight gear on occasionally, the mini-bumper seems to work fine--once it's there of course!
