I went to a British bike rally this last weekend (Baxter's) and talked to about a dozen or so Rocket owners, and of course I tried to "recruit" them and get them to visit our websites. None of them even owned computers, except for our very own Swanee (SLBJR). This is a very small sample, so you can't draw any conclusions from this.

I make up for those guys by having a dozen computers :-D never mind the majority are "legacy infrastructure" (in non-IT terms that's $1 at a garage sale).
Since I work in a job that involves gathering and analyzing statistics from computers I have to agree there's nothing even remotely resembling reliable data on this "problem" if, indeed, there is one. That would IAL have to come from Triumph.
Interesting how cybermyths take hold on internet forums. There was a rumor on HD boards that 05's had redesigned heads that were all screwed up and, among other things, burned huge amounts of oil. In actuality this stemmed from a service bulletin regarding a few 05-06 which could use oil if the valve seals were not seated properly. HD offered a slightly redesigned seal less likely to get damaged when installing and fixed this in warranty for anybody using an abnormal amount of oil.
What's interesting is the tech bulletin advised dealers the majority of complaints will be due to "customer misperception." A great many HD owners think (probably from internet misinformation) that a Harley burning ANY oil whatsoever has got bad problems. They don't know that aircooled engines just plain use oil (my TC88 about 1qt in 5000 miles, but 1qt in 1500 miles is within normal range).
I thought everybody knew that, which shows how ignorant I am
