I would not take back the Rocket III from the dealer unless the problem was fixed and I was just about to implement the lemon law on this bike when Triumph coughed up new throttle bodies to fix the problem. How can changing the throttle bodies fix the idle problem is beyond me but so far it has.

How does a throttle body go bad? Bike ran great for 15,000 miles then ideal problems. It now has 24,000 miles after two years.

My two year warranty is just ending and so far I have had the transmission change twice, motor bearing once and now new throttle bodies. Mmmmm..... what to do? Thinking of trading it in for a BMW K 1200 GT before something else gives out.

I love this bike. At 6'4" it works for me, but the problems are not good. In fact this is the first bike I have ever riden and from all the research I have done there is nothing else like it.

Wow, I have to admit if I had your problems I would really be thinking about trading it in on something else as well. Maybe hold out for the 07 model Rocket if you aren't put off by the whole bike because of your experience. I know at your size the bike must fit you like a glove. I am 6'1" and feel perfectly comfortable on it (I am bigger than I should be so I know that helps with the fit and comfort).

Best of luck to you no matter what you decide. I will say check out the Triumph Tiger before you go to your local BMW dealer. At your height that might be the best bike on the planet for you! If you must have a BMW check out their GS model. As you can tell I love the big adventure bikes.

I've had two Tigers and can't say enough good things about them. At 5'10" the bike was a little tall for me or I would still have one. I hear the 2007 model is going to be beefed up (HP-wise) and have a more adjustable seat.
Of course now you couldn't pry me off the Rocket...

My mother always said that if her church fell in a heap she would join the Salvation Army. Similarly After riding the BMW K1200GT, I reckon if my Rocket fell in a heap I would join the K1200GT army. So Rktmn3, I hope your Rocket starts to mend it's bad bad ways but if it doesnt, you won't be dissappointed with the Beema however... nobody knows at this stage what long term gremlins it might develop. Wow Rktmn3 had no idea the was a machine out there with so many problems.1st engine work I've heard of but that's not saying too much.I think I would start by contacting Triumph America/Uk to look into a resolution to this particular bikes maladys. It looks like a lemon to me.I'd be looking at extended warranty too.It makes me want to rack up the miles so these problems reveal themselves. :???:

If my Rocket had those problems I would want to give it up to. No bike, no matter how great it is, is worth all that trouble.

Having said that....go to the beamer forums and see how much trouble those bikes have....plenty. Sometimes it is just the luck of the draw.

Ugarte,

And thats the rub. Maybe I have fixed all that needs fixing on this bike. I do not want to trade old problems for a set of new ones. Your point is clear and thanks.

A lot has been said about idling problems on both Rocket forums in recent times. One of the predominant threads is that "my bike has had idling problems ever since it came back from it's last service".

This leads me to imagine that there are a lot of eager but inexperienced young techs out there who can't wait to hook up your Rocket to their diagnostic machine and have a little fiddle just for fiddlings sake! Well, the little b*ggers will never get their grubby little fingers into my bike cause I'll never take it to a dealer unless it has something blatantly wrong with it.

If they can't fix the idle electronically, what in hells name is wrong with making a simple adjustment on the throttle cable stop screw down at the fuel injector end?????????

This is a five minute job entailing removing the chrome "bear claw" cover, swinging the water resevoir bottle aside by removing one screw and you will see the throttle stop adjustment screw and lock nut right there. It's the one with a daub of yellow paint on it. Easy peasy! Davo
