I've always wondered about this....now I know..YES you can be killed by lightning while riding a motorcycle. I was caught in a thunderstorm on my Rocket last year and lightning struck a pole about 50 yards in front of me....made all the metal on the pole glow like a light bulb.....Yikes!

We had cyclist killed a few years ago by lightening in our area, He was cought in a quick storm and got blown off of his bike.

Killed him, Destroyed his BMW touring bike. The only way you could tell it was a BMW was because of the engine design. The rest of the bike was melted to nearly nothing. It was not a pretty site.

Thanks Rusty. I live alone so it was only me home. I didn't hear about anyone in the neighborhood getting hurt thankfully. That is the saving grace about my problem, it is just "stuff" that got damaged. No big deal other than the aggravation factor .

Did a bolt actually strike your house, or did you just get a surge through the power lines? Sorry about all that damage to the electrics.....

Lightning is scary stuff, very unpredictable. The two things I fear most in riding are deer and thunderstorms.....but apparently sitting at home doesn't help much either...

Well, I'd say Tom's outcome was better than the fellow on the bike. There's no certainty in life, but being home was the better part of valor in this case.

You could say that again! Tom was lucky indeed, but the guy on the yellow Suzuki wasn't so lucky. You could kinda understand it if he was a low-life on his way to the next drug deal but this guy appears to be a very nice family man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I saw that on another forum. Looks like the Man Upstairs needed to call that guy home for reasons us dogs in a library will never know.

Figure if He wants me that bad He'll find a way even if I lock myself in the house and never go out. Sad for those he left behind but not something that would ever discourage me from riding when there's a popcorn storm in the vicinity (which is pretty often here in KS). Now if it's right on top of me I'm going to pull off for other reasons. Hailstones (which can drop down out of most any KS storm without warning) aren't a pleasant experience on a bike.
