I was pulled over on the way to work this morning. Motorcycle cop (just jealous) pulled me over. He asked me why I thought he pulled me over and I am thinking to myself, excessive speed or the wheel I did, no neither. He just gave me a verbal warning telling me my pipes were too loud. Said they were straight pipes (shows you what he knows). I did not say anything back, (never argue with the police except in court). Any way, he told me to ease up on the acceleration and that should keep the noise down.

Darn Jardines....

Time to take a new route to work or maybe I should get some MadDogs instead.

Seems to me there are a LOT more motorcycles on the road today than even just a few years ago. On any warm Sunday on just about any nice twisty road out here there are swarms of them.....the vast majority being cruisers with aftermarket pipes.

I think because of the huge increase in "loud pipes" on the road the authorities are going to start actually cracking down.....as indicated by your post....instead of looking the other way. I would hate to have to ease up on the throttle just to keep quiet....that would take all the fun out of riding. Good sounding pipes are nice to hear but not worth it in that scenario.

I agree that you should never argue with a cop except in court......but it sure is humiliating to be chastised and scolded by some cherubic young man half your age......just part of the pain of getting old I guess..

Well, I will offer my two sense on this because loud pipes (mainly the Harley crowd) are causing havoc among communities.

I know of several communities around Atlanta here that ban motorcycles period! Yes...I say none! The reason is these idiots with unbelievable loud pipes of which I can't stand to ride next to them...or behind them...so I am always out front. But, these communities don't discriminate between the cycles....they just say none. This is prolific in Florida now too. So, it's becoming a huge problem and I for one want to see some sort of db level enforced so I can move to any community I want with the bike. And don't go to the "I want to be heard for safety sake BS"....statistics don't support your arguments. Not even close.

I don't get it....I take the song of my stock Rocket or Valkyrie anyday over a too loud system. I must be getting old too. and all this coming from a hotrodder and a guy that used to play with AA/FC stuff and loud vintage airplanes. Now that's loud!

Well, I guess I'll throw in my likely not too popular opinion here too. I hope all law enforcement agencies start writing big dollar tickets for every loud set of pipes they come across, all day, every day, till death do us part. Let me 'splain why, Lucy.

Like Hotrodsrj said, a lot of communities are banning all bikes outright. If local law enforcement would just enforce the noise regulations already at their disposal, communities won't resort to these draconian measures that punish the innocent as well as the guilty. Washington now has laws that won't let you ride your dirt bike on your own dang property because of the abuse by a few.
I love bikes, but I have to say I don't blame the locals for wanting to put a stop to it. I live on a popular motorcycling road and I get sick of the noise, of having to halt conversations till the morons ride by, or take my phone inside on a nice day to finish a conversation, etc, etc. Or you're trying to eat a peaceful meal at an outside restaurant and some idiot can't just start his piece of ***** and leave. Oh no, he has to make certain he's "impressed" everybody in the place. Or the morons who have to warm up their EFI bikes for half an hour in the motel parking lot at 6 in the morning. These idiots just made a lot of people even more likely to cut you off in traffic or write their congressman. This directly affects all of us.
If enough people get fined enough money, maybe the aftermarket will step in and make systems that sound beefy but limit the racket to like 90 decibels (or twice as loud as stock). That's what I want anyway, just enough so I can hear the bike when I'm going down the road. I don't want to set off car alarms. I don't want to annoy the neighbors when I leave for work - they work for the money to buy their house too and have the right not be woke up by my loud pipes. Besides, I paid for the bike, why should the freeloaders get to enjoy the bike music? I know those pipes can be made. The best sounding bikes going by here are the muffled, but beefy sounding, Guzzis and Ducatis. Heck, even the sport bike riders have quiet options.
Let's face it, the average riders running the V-Twins with open pipes do not care at all about the future of motorcycling and the best thing for those of us who do care is to have the dipwads fined into oblivion.

You should learn a few more slurs... your name calling got a little redundant.

Never argue with a cop, PLEASE. If your pipes are street legal tell him you will see him in court and spell your name for him letter by letter. if your pipes are not legal stand and take the warning(or ticket) loud pipes are annoying they make the driver and bike look stupid (look at me everybody I have loud pipes)

Actually, I should learn how to express myself without resorting to slurs. Hemingway I ain't.

I am guilty as charged too.

I threw my "idiots" in there because you can't talke to these guys at all about this! Try it...you won't like it. So, it is what it is and they are what they are! They simply don't see what they are doing to our hobby. I think the term is actually endearing for those that won't listen. No "rocket scientists" there for sure. Ooooops, excuse the pun! :-D

Agreed with SoccerRef. I'll see the cop in court.

Be safe.

I believe the pipes are legal for road use. There is no sticker or warning that says these pipes are for off road use only.
