From a previous post "Jardines", i said i was putting the jardines on my bike. did that and was not happy. TOO LOUD. I thought they were supposed to rumble. Anyhoo, i have now decided to put my official triumph race cans on. While I'm waiting for the shop to open on Monday to get a new set of gaskets, i have hit apon the idea of spraying the headers with black heatproof paint (just like the jardines). I have the black engine and i think they would look great under the chrome heat shields. It would at least hide the bluing on them.
Has anyone done this?
What paint did you use? I was thinking of the paint you use to paint chair bricks on fireplaces. I live in england, so an English brand would be ideal.

Thanks
P.S. Anyone interested in a set of Jardine exhausts.

Those headers get very hot... You are going to want to use a paint that has a lot of ceramic in it... it will say on the label. We used to do this for Harleys. The first problem is that the paint doesn't like to stick to chrome, so you need to rough it up with some steel wool or wet and dry sandpaper (very fine, like 600 grit). This, of course, ruins the chrome plating so you need to decide if you really want to do this.

If you continue, you spray the headers and then you need to "cure" the paint. You do this by running the bike for about 15 seconds and shut it off and let the headers cool completely. Then you do the same thing but let it run for about 30 seconds. Then 1 minute. Then 2 minutes. Then 3 minutes. Go up to about 10 or 15 minutes. This cures and bakes the paint on, and it shouldn't bubble or peel when you put the bike into actual use.

There are also places that will ceramic coat your headers, this would be the best option, but I wouldn't know where to find someone to do this where you live. Try talking to an exhaust shop or some car guys (Rodders), they always seem to be up on this stuff...

I bought them into the uk, so i paid tax on them. in total i paid £999.00 ($1,831.00). I'll be happy if i get £700 although to be honest i'll probably settle for £500. unless you're in the uk it's not going to be worth your while.

problem is you are spraying chrome which doesnt take to well to black hight temp auto paint....i have done it on my old suzuki headers, but i first coated it with fish all....which turned black and baked on....left it for a few weeks to stink and fry then sprayed the black over....as long as they dont get scratched it will stay on their.....hopefully :-D
