When I orderd my progressives 440s I told them standard springs but as no one listens they sent them with heavy springs, they sent me the standard springs after I complained is it as easy as it looks to change them, compress the springs unscrew the top and replace, any help would be appreciated.

i have changed some old Koni shock springs, the trick is to compress the springs without damaging the shaft, it can be bent under pressure, i convereted some old auto spring compressors and worked it a bit at a time....then tied big nylon ties around the springs on each side....it was ruff but did the job, just be careful as there is a lot of pressure and if it lets go stuff flys everywhere, might be better ot get someone to do it for a small cost...there professional are rigs built to do the job

Hey folks,

Don't understand the need to compress the spring. I lifted the rear of the Rocket using a rolling tire jack and boards. If I recall correctly, you lift the wheel or press on the seat to align the shock mount with frame. The important thing is to control the bike on the lift. This isn't the same as replacing a car strut where you need a tool to compress the spring.

The adjustment of the shock is kind of funny, you twist it several turns before you see the threads that they mention in the instructions. And, you made a great decision. The shocks will really improve your ride.

Gotcha -

Then I guess you use a car import type spring clamp where the screw are external to the stock shaft.

Did a truck spring using a bench vise and hose clamps once.... to dumb or broke to rent the right tool.

Thanks
