Having 2 road bikes is the one great luxury in my life. It's great having a spare just in case when you live with the short WA riding season too.
For me, it's very much "Horses for Courses". 4 days to do the 1500 miles to the Sonoma races and back? Take the Rocket. 5 days for the 2500 miles to Sturgis and back? Perfect Rocket scenario. Wanna blow some minds? Rocket.
But if I'm just wandering down the Oregon coast in no real hurry and I'm searching out the smallest back roads possible, the Victory is my clear choice. With its lower center of gravity, lower seat height, 100 pounds lower weight, 4" shorter wheelbase, tighter turning radius, a kickstand that actually leans the bike over, no engine heat issues, fuel gauge, better stock suspension, clock, self canceling turn signals, etc, etc, the Victory is light years ahead in being user friendly. For me, the Vic' gives that old timey feel while having modern amenities. After riding the Rocket it's sometimes hard to figure out if the right twist grip is hooked to a throttle or a volume control, but hey, you can't have everything! :-D
Alas, my Victory came out the loser in a contest with a 3/4 ton Chevy over the weekend, so I'll somehow have to "suffer" through with just the Rocket for a while.

> The Bonneville is just the basics of motorcycling joy. Pure and simple. A man and a machine. Fun and freedom. Uncomfortable and slow.
...
I always thought one bike was enough. Now I need at least two.

Now you understand the reason for my list, at left.

However, I must challenge two assertions here. Uncomfortable and slow are both very relative terms. I've done 600 mile days on Bonnie, and never did quite manage that much on Grace.

Slow? Slower than many other bikes, perhaps, but as your own story shows, still able to leave faster bikes behind! And still quicker than all but the most powerful autos! A Bonneville is more than able to get you all the speeding citations your license can handle. :-)

I just finished off a 1300 mile ride in 2 and 1/2 days on the bonnie, You just have to add a few mods. Exhaust saddles, seat and jetting. I kept a sold 85 the whole time passing slower cars at 100mph. Not a rocket, still comfy and capable.
