The one where the redneck climbs on the moving transport truck and lets the tarp fly causing his buddy to go flying off the road? Well, i kinda did the same thing, minus the rednecks and the tarp. Yes, i took a flying leap off a curve on my Rocket Saturday evening! Nothing to blame but shear lack of concentration...i just zoned out and woke up just in time to realize it's too late. I'm already in the oncomming lane heading for the edge at about 65 mph. I slam on the brakes, but the outside edge of the curve is covered in gravel. Off the road i go, down a embankment for appox. 100 feet, headed straight for a tree line. I couldn't tell you what my hands and feet were doing to keep control of the bike. With five feet to go before i smack the treeline, the front tire digs in and on our side we go sliding to a quick grassy stop. Damage was minimal, a bent shifter and a broken shifter link. Left headlight bent out of shape, Fender lip cover broken off. The radiator got knocked around a little, but no leaks, and it just pushed back into place. My fullface helment got gouged pretty good on it's top and left side. And i suffered only a twisted left ankle. I manged to get the Rocket up and she fired right up. Rode her up the embankment and made it home. How high was this embankment you ask? When you stand at the bottom of it, you can barely see the tops of cars go by! My pride is hurt only because i caused damage to what i consider a soulmate in the world of motorcycles. But we will get through this together!
By the way... The word "Sweeetttt!" ain't what came out of my mouth on the way down!

You ain't alone.
Real glad you're able to tell us the story. Kind of frightening the way it only takes a split second...

Interesting reading material. BAD subject matter. Glad everything ended "happily". Good attitude. Probably better than what I would have. Grade= "A+"

Glad you are OK bigern! That could've been way worse for you and/or the bike. Hope your ankle heals and the bike gets fixed fast.

Bigern, Although you tipped it on it's side, I guess you could sum this up as a great save. A great save in the sense that you didn't send it flying down the embankment end for end. A great save in that you didn't impale bike and rider into the trees and a great save in that you only suffered minimal damage to bike and rider as you gently tipped it over at the last moment on the soft grass. You did well.

Thinking about your words on the way over the bankment some possible utterences come to mind:

Daaaam, this could make me late for dinner.
Help me Jeeeesus!
Frick, I could be in bit of bother here.
Did I put the cats bowl out this morning?
Geesh, I'm glad those main-roads workers put a nice slope on this embankment.
Goodnight Irene!
Faaaaaaaark!!!!

Hope you're back on the road real soon, Davo

Very glad you are ok, Bigern. I have usually found that I am more likely to get in trouble when I'm just doodlin' along and not really paying attention. Sounds like you did a great job riding it out, you didn't give up on it. [That could have been bad!]

Geez, that's scary*****. Glad to hear you suffered only minor injuries. Another reminder to all of us, that no matter how long we've ridden, it only takes a moment to lose it. Davo, that's funny*****.

Glad you're okay!

Don't you understand yet?? The Rocket is like space ships on Star Trek or Star Wars. Twisting the throttle instantly puts you into warp speed! Before twisting the throttle, you have to prepare your path. If there is ANYTHING, objects, curves, etc. in your path and you hit the hyper drive, you will instantly thrown off course by the first curve, or disintegrated by any object!
