You can physically remove them! The secondaries are...***** where's Tommo when you need him? Look if you do a search you will find out all you need, there is/was even a 'sticky' on how to safely remove them without dropping little screws into your engine and doing major damage! They are a set of plates under the bear claw where the air intake is. Three ports and three sets or pairs of butterfly plates that adjust the air mix. The factory (Triumph) has restricted the secondaries to limit power delivery in the first couple of gears on the factory 20050 tune... And restricts the middle gears on say the 20054 tune!... Anyway, by removing the secondary plates the restriction does not come into play, even though the engine management system thinks they are still operating. There is a debate on how good this is for your engine!?

The simplest way around all this is now to install the 'Tuneboy' program which among other things unrestricts the secondaries by altering or modifying the standard factory tune. You can buy the Tuneboy program or key and drop in modified tunes for your bikes set up... Or put the bike on the Dyno and custom map a tune for your bike. It will also fine tune the ignition sequences etc etc...

Hey I'm outa breath and this is a lay-mans version of events. There is probably a dozen or so guys who can dazzle you with their brilliance or baffle you with their BS better than me!

I'll do a techy deal ... maybe this weekend. I have ASE recert tests this week and I will be a lttle busy with those...

Really the best way to get around the secondary throttle plates is to use the TuneBoy setup... but if you don't want to go that way you can physically remove them....

Right now we are playing with the tuneboy and that will be first up on my plate this weekend, I think. We were going to do some on it last weekend but we had to go for a motorsickle ride and it messed those plans up :-D ... We did get a little done on it and I think we are headed in the right direction

What do you think about using the Tuneboy to open the 2ndary throttle plates and whatever else you can get out of the SteveRed map and then dyno tune your PCIII to optimize the fuel trim?

I asked Wayne about this:

"If you physically remove the secondary plates and the secondary map has values less than 255, won't there be more air going through the engine than the ECU thinks there is and won't the mixture be too lean in the secondary map cells with values less than 255?"

This was his response:

"Yes. I have tested this and it can be up to 1ms difference in pulse time, this equates to almost 10%."

Hmmmm.
