It's nothing new with turbo on a R3, and I know most of you hate the idea and would call anyone wanting one for an idiot. Still, I will report here about my project for those who might be interested.
Most R3 turbos kit sold use the standard 8,7 compression and therefore can only use a low pressure. That will give about 200hp before they run into problem. The standard kit sold in US (I have not seen them sold anywhere else) don't show figures of the performance under 2500 rpm. I guess they probably don't perform so well below. Anyone who tried them?
Anyway, my choice was to to get help from a company who knows everything about fitting turbos on anything. They will start building my turbo kit W23. It is scheduled to take 2 weeks and after that they will release a high pressure kit for R3 for the global market. I will give you the name of the company and prices once it's ready. We are aiming for 300-330hp and 400-450Nm. Of course it will be possible to charge less to save tires. To load more you will have to use a larger turbo the Mitsubishi I will use. There are other options for up to 500hp.
On my bike we will lower the compression to 7,5 by raising the top by 1,87 mm. At least that is the first option. If this don't work 100% we will have to use specially made pistons.
Hopefully I will be able to show pictures of the process. Unfortunately, I live some 1000km away from turbo wizards, so I have to send up the bike and I will only be there at the end of the project.
I know I'm crazy, but let me be. I'm sure I'm not alone.
To be continued....
