The Rocket rear wheel is heavy and I find it difficult for one person to install the wheel back on the shaft without much foul language. The bike has to be raised quite a bit to get the tire out....lowering it back down with the new tire under it is tricky because the bike rotates in an arc on the jack as the it is lowered and so you have to keep on adjusting the tire sideways to compensate.

What I was looking for was an easy way to get the wheel lined up and mated with the shaft drive without having to hold the wheel in position myself.

The solution was as you see in the pic....just put one of those lightweight cheap car jacks you get with most cars on top of a wooden board on top of the rear seat....run a piece of soft webbing through the wheel and the car jack and then you can easily align the wheel with the axle hole by adjusting the jack.

Once aligned I just put the rear axle back in through both holes then slowly pull the wheel on to the shaft drive....piece of cake. With the wheel mated to the shaft drive you can now pull out the axle, grease it up, and run it back in and complete the installation.

My tire installer was slightly injured today installing the tire...nasty nick on his hand....apparently it is a very difficult wheel to install the metzler tire on, not enough drop he says. He hates installing that tire for me...but I have bought several motorcycle tires from him and so he is a reasonably good sport about it..... :-D

Looks like a good idea Ugarte. I normally remove all mufflers which makes the task of getting the wheel out from under the guard a much easier job with nothing in the way.
