Been riding for 30 years. I have never worn a full face helmet......until now! It's becoming apparent that motorcycle accidents are on the rise. I have had many close calls over the years but it seems to be getting worse. I am not one for lane splitting or taking chances, and consider myself to be a decent rider. Two recent factors have weighed heavily in my decision.....the stupid lady on her cell phone who pulled quickly into my lane squeezing me against her and the curb.......and the poor Harley guy wearing a skull cap who hit a vehicle making a left turn in front of him and ended up 100 feet down the road and landed on his face (gruesome sight). His Harley ended up on the drivers roof...a sight you don't see everyday. It seems that every driver out there is on a cell phone, and I believe it's bad news for us two wheelers. I finally found a full face helmet that"s comfortable and will be wearing one no matter what the weather. Drive safe.

Here is another reason to wear a full face.....I was riding back from the beach last weekend and encountered a thunderstorm in the valley. I kept going right into the rain at 90 mph....didn't phase me at all, but two harley riders I passed who had no windshield and were wearing brain bucket helmets were having to hold their hands in front of thieir faces and slow down to below 60mph.

When its raining, wearing a full face makes all the difference between hating the ride and loving the ride. And forget about riding in hail without a full face.......

I'm afraid I'm with you guys. I havn't worn my Shoei open faced helmet since I bought a Harley brand jet helmet equiped with a solid flip down visor which is a whole lot better than an open face with sunnies.

I am currently using this helmet and quite like it but am thinking of stumping up the extra to buy one of the new BMW full face helmets with a flip up chin piece. There is an optional built in blue tooth capability which will be the main reason for the purchase, but I think a little extra safety will do no harm, so to speak. Davo

Hate to tell you this but the cages aren't the only ones with a cell phone glued to their ears. About a month ago I saw a biker talking on his cell while maneuvering through town traffic.

I said glued but it was an actual cell phone being held with one hand. Figured he was having fun braking, shifting, steering, etc with one hand....?

Isn't the bluetooth option so you can talk on the cell while riding? what's the diff? It's not the hand holding the phone or even hands free cell options..some just can't concentrate on driving and a telephone conversation at the same time.

I do like the extra protection from full face. And the "mystery rider" effect it creates is kinda kewl.

Full face helmets have more room for stickers.

And up here in New ENgland, they help extend the riding season for those of us who dont like frostbitten cheeks.

Two things:

Did Ugarte - really say I love my full face helmet because I can ride in the rain at 90 MPH ???? Guess the conditions really were not all that bad and your comment was more of how comfortable you were in relation to the others.

What works for keeping the fog off the face screen? I tried the stuff on the white rag from the local bike shop - that says trust me the rag is treated with something that if you rub enough will protect the screen from fogging. Ain't work or I am not patience enough.

The next time I go into the dealer I will opt for a fog free replacement screen or other solution. Years ago I used a Fog Free product that I can no longer locate in my local auto parts store.

Yes, among many other reasons.

Depends on what you mean by bad I guess. I entered the storm at 90, passed the Harleys at 90, observed their distress, but then did have to slow down eventually because of increasingly worse conditions. When the spray kicks up and reduces visibility...and when their is so much rain there is a potential of hydroplaning....then I slow down. But the storm had just let go and the road was not yet drenched.

To me, rain riding is fun with the full face...kind of like sitting in front of the fireplace listening to the raindrops hit the roof, in complete comfort....and..uhm...well...maybe not safety :-D
